Faster, Please

With the return of an actual competent (and conscious, rather than catatonic) U.S. Attorney General in that post, and his office back in full command of its constitutional powers and authority, we note with considerable glee the announcement this week that FedGov will resume executing the wastes of skin currently sitting on federal Death Row.

The sooner those oxygen thieves make their manners to the Almighty, and their room and board is no longer laid across the back of taxpayers everywhere, the better and healthier will be the republic.

Pity they didn't total them up, and announce dates for all of them, starting tomorrow. As it is, the next five to be judicially whacked will depart in December and January next. Just in time for Christmas!

And when The Man asking for the drugs required also holds the keys to the license to sell drugs, nationwide, we expect this will be the overdue end of the horsesh*t and shenanigans, whereby states have been shut out of getting the potions required by law to do the necessary deed. (In our occasionally esteemed opinion, the default, at that point, should be a choice of either rope, or bullets.)

If AG Barr could announce to the President and people of the U.S. that as of Date XX, there would be no one remaining on federal Death Row, it would be a happy day, and a reminder that we still had some shreds of a functioning legal system, particularly if the snail's pace of the process became a daily drumbeat of certainty.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

UPDATE: From Free North Carolina, a synopsis of the five slated to come up to bat in December:
Daniel Lewis Lee, a member of a white supremacist group, murdered a family of three, including an eight-year-old girl. After robbing and shooting the victims with a stun gun, Lee covered their heads with plastic bags, sealed the bags with duct tape, weighed down each victim with rocks, and threw the family of three into the Illinois bayou. On May 4, 1999, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas found Lee guilty of numerous offenses, including three counts of murder in aid of racketeering, and he was sentenced to death. Lee's execution is scheduled to occur on Dec. 9, 2019.

Lezmond Mitchell stabbed to death a 63-year-old grandmother and forced her nine-year-old granddaughter to sit beside her lifeless body for a 30 to 40-mile drive. Mitchell then slit the girl's throat twice, crushed her head with 20-pound rocks, and severed and buried both victims' heads and hands. On May 8, 2003, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona found Mitchell guilty of numerous offenses, including first degree murder, felony murder, and carjacking resulting in murder, and he was sentenced to death. Mitchell's execution is scheduled to occur on Dec. 11, 2019.

Wesley Ira Purkey violently raped and murdered a 16-year-old girl, and then dismembered, burned, and dumped the young girl's body in a septic pond. He also was convicted in state court for using a claw hammer to bludgeon to death an 80-year-old woman who suffered from polio and walked with a cane. On Nov. 5, 2003, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri found Purkey guilty of kidnapping a child resulting in the child's death, and he was sentenced to death. Purkey's execution is scheduled to occur on Dec. 13, 2019.

Alfred Bourgeois physically and emotionally tortured, sexually molested, and then beat to death his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. On March 16, 2004, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas found Bourgeois guilty of multiple offenses, including murder, and he was sentenced to death. Bourgeois' execution is scheduled to occur on Jan. 13, 2020.

Dustin Lee Honken shot and killed five people — two men who planned to testify against him and a single, working mother and her ten-year-old and six-year-old daughters. On Oct. 14, 2004, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa found Honken guilty of numerous offenses, including five counts of murder during the course of a continuing criminal enterprise, and he was sentenced to death. Honken's execution is scheduled to occur on Jan. 15, 2020.

I don't care what color any of them are. I don't care if they found God, or turned their lives around in the slammer.
They need to be dead, Dead, DEAD. Like yesterday.
Five is just warming up.

And speaking of warm, one order of piping hot 5' long party sub sh*t sandwich to asstard Dubbya, for letting things lapse in 2003.
No excuse.

He should have started pushing them out of C-130s at altitude as an interim measure.

if our society insists on a death penalty we'd be better served with public hanging or a bullet in the back of the head carried out by the sentencing judge if it can be done humanely and meets public muster.

It entertains and edifies the masses in ways at hiding away what is however just, the killing of a helpless person does.

Being able to resume execution by drug cocktail might prove a bit challenging however

A great deal of the drugs we need come from Europe and they have made it clear they will not allow their products to be use in this manner . The President doesn't really have the leverage to make them or to win such a bluff. The first time Aunt Petunia dies do a delayed surgery and her family is informed "It's President Trump fault as he cut off the drug supply." even assuming the go search it will in fact be his fault.

That is not a good situation even if in theory most people favor capital punishment.

Also if you favor corporations having the right to refuse service on ethical grounds except in time of war, drug companies do have the right to refuse to support the death penalty by selling such drugs or anything else.

In that case either we stop executing people or use another method.

no cocktails involved:

"At Barr's direction, the Bureau of Prisons has adopted the Federal Execution Protocol Addendum which "replaces the three-drug procedure previously used in federal executions with a single drug—pentobarbital,"

"In the Netherlands, the standard protocol for physician-assisted suicide is to provide 9 grams of pentobarbital sodium along with sugar syrup in a 20% ethanol solution for self-administration by the patient."

"The oral dosage of pentobarbital indicated for physician-assisted death in the United States states of Oregon, Washington, Vermont, and California (as of January, 2016) is typically 10 g in liquid form."

Since using it to kill human beings is an arguably on-label utilization, what legal objection exists for a company for it be used as such?

Bake the cake you bigots...

Killing people in an execution equates poorly to baking a cake and for voluntary taking of one's own life

In any case it's quite possible to have moral objections to certain acts and be unwilling to help someone do it or supply them with the tools to do so when you know what is being used for.

I'm happy to sell you delousing spray but i don't want it used for mass killings thanks.

There are also liability issues, if we make pentobarbital in the US of which I am not sure, our companies may face fines and sanctions in Europe for providing it for executions.

Ignoring the EU which is not long for this world , the European market is the largest in the world and hs 500 million consumers and given Europe doesn't need our goods in that area, a smart company will not want to be locked out of such a large market

Maybe the US should just grow the fuck up and get rid of the death penalty or baring that just require the prosecutor to carry it out with a revolver on the courthouse step

Not man enough? Don't ask someone else to do your killing for you.

I'm not opposed to capital punishment, in fact, in many cases I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically endorse it.

However. I don't trust our current "justice system" or the current government from top to bottom. It is so unaccountable and out of control I don't want to see them with this power for the time being. I've seen too many dirty cops, dirty politicians and seen the havoc they can wreak on an innocent person.

If in the future when the power of the state has been brought to heel or when there is absolute incontrovertible evidence then I'm all for it but not as currently administered. When the people desire that the state judicially kill in their name it should be done openly and publicly. It should be done by hanging or firing squad. It should not only be done on whatever constitutes the town square in that jurisdiction, it should be mandatory that it be shown on every single cable and broadcast network live with no broadcast delay. If the state fucks up and the condemned strangles to death over 20 minutes then so be it. If they get the drop wrong and some portly malefactor's head pops off I expect viewers of the price is right or dancing with the stars to be witness in full 1080P HDTV glory. If the firing squad is off the mark and it takes a couple reloads so be it.

If we want it done, we need to watch it carried out in all its violence, gore and finality. No sleepy needle like old fluffy or fido at the vet.

Precisely none of the drugs required "come from Europe".
Diazepam, succinylcholine, and potassium are all manufactured right here in the U.S.

Arguments about the imperfection of the death penalty are flatly recockulous.
Governments have been executing people since time began, even before recorded history.
Perfection is a jackassical standard, unachievable in any endeavor, and has n part of this discussion.

The legal phrase is "beyond a reasonable doubt", not beyond an unreasonable doubt, nor beyond any doubt whatsoever.

Found guilty? Appeals for reversible error denied? String 'em up.

Capital crimes should have a three-judge appellate panel sitting behind a one-way mirror, and if the trial is concluded, death is sentenced, and the appeals denied, the accused should be scheduled for execution the next morning.

Trampled by elephants, torn asunder by horses, or put to sleep like Fluffy, IDGAF.
Send them across the river Styx, in haste, and be done with them.

After over a decade of somnolence and deliberate dithering and obstruction of justice, sanity is returning to federal policy.
Its absence has long been noted, and its return equally long overdue.

A.B. Prosper said...

Aesop. I think we can nicely without executing people as pretty much every developed nation and many less developed ones have already.

I looked at the list of who doe executions and that is a list we ought not be one.

But then again we have far more in common with the shittier parts of the 3rd world culturally than we like to admit.

In any case there certainly is no Constitutional issue with executing people nor apparently any shortage if needed drugs if the companies wish to sell them, well barring the European kettling I noted earlier.

So be it. Most of the people will be missed by no one.

The various levels of our government have seized tons of heroin and fentanyl. Use those seized drugs for execution.

A million overdosed drug addicts can't be wrong.

If not that, Hanging and Firing Squads are known to be simple and effective. The death is quick and relatively painless. Want to make sure they are painless? Ignore esthetics, and drop the criminal far enough to sever his head from his body; increase the firing squad to twelve or sixteen shooters with big bore guns or slug firing shotguns and target his head. It will be very messy, but painless for the criminal. Want to eliminate the need for a squad? Sit him in a chair with two or three electric triggered machine guns targeting his vitals.

Anoxia would be a new painless method. Start with a little nitrous oxide to relax the criminal, and then switch to 100% nitrogen. Leave him in the booth for sixty minutes of full nitrogen, just to be sure.

There are lots of ways to execute criminals. All that is needed is the political will.

Easy way to get rid of all of them by the end of August: Indicate they have inside information on the Clintons.

And, there is no impediment whatsoever to obtain the correct drug(s) independently of any pharm companies and simply produce the required chemicals in government laboratories. There is no patent on Pentobarbital Sodium. Simple to formulate, and the U.S. government has any number of facilities capable of doing so.

No sympathy for the assholes. We put down thousands of dogs every day for the simple crime of being numerous. They didn't kill or torture anyone, and it is usually the other way around. So, hang 'em high, at the airport, or go back to the firing squad. (I can always use target practice.) These bastards need to be DEAD!

TwoDogs said...

Isn't pentobarbital what they use for veterinary euthanasia ? So much for all the maneuvering over execution drug availability. Just pop down to the local vet's clinic and pick up a dose. Failing that, pop across the Mex border and grab a bag full, as Hemlock Society advocates have been advising for years.

Like some anonymous poster above said, millions of dead drug addicts can't be wrong. We know that heroin in sufficient doses and fentanyl in smaller doses kill and with the tons of the stuff that .gov has confiscated and will continue to confiscate, because the drug cartels aren't shutting down any time soon, the drugs to carry out the sentence are readily available. Use them, DAILY, until the backlog is cleared up.

I suggest firing squads chosen by lot (a drawing, like doe tags) from the Militia. Participants would receive an inlaid plaque commemorating the gun's use in such a historic event, thus creating a valuable family heirloom.
Where can I put in for the drawing?

Only if participants supply their own ammo.

One day out of ten, randomly, the guest of honor would be told, after strapping to the table, "Sorry, all out of other options", and then smothered with a pillow.
On national holidays, I'd alternate between keelhauling, and being fired out of a cannon. For that festive air.

Ask for volunteers to form a firing squad. 7 men per squad, with one rifle loaded with a blank so the weak willed can sleep at night afterwards. If given an option, most men I know would request the blank be removed... Or use a public hanging. Public executions would be a rapid deterrent to enterprising criminals considering self promoting from larceny to violent crime.
What gets rewarded gets repeated and conversely, what gets punished does not get repeated... It ain't real complicated.

A.B. Prosper said...

For people who act like cops are a huge problem and big government is a menace , y'all sure love your executions.

Either you think the government generally does a good job or you don't

If you don't you than the State shouldn't be running drug factories or sentencing people to death since they are just as likely to clown world that up as anything else.

Aesop said...

The government only makes the arrest and does the trial, as they have since ever, and performs the actual execution.

With the odd exception, the people they actually set out to kill generally end up dead.
As they have since ever.

If your argument, once again, is perfection in running the trial, you're an anarchist, firstly, and arguing for an unreasonable standard, secondly, since the rule is "beyond a reasonable doubt", and the sentence is agreed upon by a jury of your peers, which is a whole lot of fallible humanity. Get over it, or propose a workable replacement.

You would limit government to only those things which can be done perfectly?
That's a horseshit standard only heard in dorm room bullshit sessions, amongst sophomorons.

In the real world, the government does executions in lieu of personal feud and vengeance being the standard of societal jurisprudence.

People like their executions because they indicate that government is doing its rightful business, leveling the playing field, enforcing justice, and preventing the strong from preying on the weak unhindered. Even as a child, nearly everyone knew what was right and wrong, largely without being told. People have an innate sense of justice in their souls, and the best of us are not satisfied until it is delivered.

If you don't like that, you're in the wrong place, arguing the wrong standard.

Scroll up, look at the five slated to kick off the next spate of justice being served, and argue the merits of their defense.

If you cannot do that with a clear conscience, you're just trolling.
If you can do that with a clear conscience, you're an amoral monster.
Or a lawyer. But I repeat myself.

Quite the poser there.

By their deeds, those people have forfeited their human right to life.
The state should have executed the sentence two decades ago for them and hundreds more languishing at ease years after they killed and tortured innocent victims.

IMHO, execution should be mandatorily carried out the next morning.
The only thing we do wrong is not administering death to them the same way they meted it out, that they might face eternity in sheer physical and mental agony and hopeless terror, exactly what they dealt out in the first place.

Argue that flaw in the process until the cows come home, with my sincere benediction.

OvergrownHobbit said...

Dear Mr. Aesop. I don't require perfection in running a trial before I will support the death penalty. I require a civilized, reasonably competent country, rather than a banana republic.

Which we do not have.

But I will make an exception for these five hold overs from the days when the justice system didn't kavanaugh hoi polloi, and give a Clinton pass to raping, murdering - but connected - thugs.

Hang 'em high.

Until the day we have a country again, I support any shreds of protection Joe Nobody has against judicial murder.

I agree that we need to look at executing people, but...

I think we need to label more crimes as capital crimes.

Seriously.

Think of all the people whose lives have been ruined by white collar criminal who just skated on a minimum sentence in a min-sec prison.

Think of the lives lost due to drunk driving, or driving while intoxicated.

Think of the numbers of dumb-assed druggies who have slipped their mortal coil using drugs. Isn't a death linked to the commission of a crime often treated as a murder? If so, then drug dealers ought to be charged with every dumb-assed doper who overdosed, or died because of bad drugs.

Seriously.

I know that the death penalty isn't much of a threat, even when used, but it's not supposed to be. The death penalty is for removing the 'rabid dog' that is a threat to society just by their simple continued existence.

As to firing squads, every death row ought to have a Death Row Day, where the local prison or state lotteries for firing positions on a nearby hill, or bleachers in a flat area. Starting at 9am till noon, the sides of the prison drop exposing just bars holding the prisoners in. And then let the lottery winners fire up the cells with whatever they want up to .50BMG. Anything larger would require too much repair work on the prison.

Screw it. Execute them.

How many of these dirt bags have confessed, like Danny Rollings, of the crimes that the State has beaucoup evidence for, up to and including video evidence that is Hollywood clear rather than standard-convenience-store-blurry clear? How many fucked up sociopaths and psychopaths have been convicted and then released to murder again? How is society any better letting these assclowns exist.

And don't get me started on 'innocent due to insanity.' I worked in a Mental un-prison (because 'not guilty by reason of insanity' and there was one 'ward' that held a bunch of murdering evil bastards that would have shocked the worst of Hitler's camp guards with their brutality. One 'innocent' was shot in the chest at 20' with a shotgun because he was, at the age of 35, running around the streets of Miami with the severed head of his 12yoa 'girlfriend' and only clothed in her blood. Seriously. Is there any possibility of rehabilitating this POS? No. So.. Screw it. Feed him pudding full of glass and let him bleed to death internally. Or just shoot him. Or hang him.

And, as to expanding the death penalty. Treason should be an executable offense again. Bradley Manning should have been executed by the military for his actions, those being treason, desertion in the line of fire, aiding and abetting the enemy, and actions resulting in the deaths of 6 US servicemen and an untold number of ragheads. If anyone deserves capital punishment, it's this dirtbag. But, nooo. The biggest mistake of the US Presidents ever let this POS go free, and then the dude ran for Congress (fortunately unsuccessfully. But, still, he/she-it should never have been alive long enough to run for Congress.)

Beans said...

Rant - Part the Deux:

Continued from above -

Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, but, fruck it. Seen too many POSes who deserve death just walk away. Including murderous little fucks that are 'underage' so they are released at 25yoa even though they've gone on a worse murdering spree than Bonnie and Clyde.

Yes, there are issues with the criminal justice system. But many of the death row inmates and people who should be on death row but aren't because of pussy prosecutors pleaing the case down to lesser charges even though the evidence is overwhelming, have, again, more than enough DNA, physical evidence, video evidence and their own damned confessions to prove the crapheads are guilty beyond even the most unreasonable doubt. Frag those bastards and beyotches.

If there are questions, Death Penalty treated as Life Without Parole + 100 years until the questions are answered, and if reasonable doubt is fulfilled but there are still questions, leave it at LWOP+100. If the questions are answered and the POS is still guilty then Death.

Screw it.

And, seriously, just a big old shot of Potassium Chloride and another huge shot of Calcium will stop anyone dead in their tracts. Oh, it hurt? Good. So did the crimes that the craphead did, to all the victims and all the affected people.

Yeah, that's right. Affected people. Have you ever seen a detective barfing because of the shear grossness of the crime scene? Or the suffering of the families, like all the Angel families that San Fran Nan is ignoring because of their loss due to illegals murdering?

Yeah...

And, sorry. By now there isn't anyone 5 or older who hasn't heard at least a thousand times not to drink and drive, or be stoned and drive or text and drive. Yet how many scumbags still drive impared or distracted? How is this not murder, at least 2nd degree, if not actual 1st degree murder.

Screw it. The world, at least the USA, would be better without all these dregs of society and treasonous scum.

The Gray Man said...

Why is it that executing a bunch of lowlifes is the only thing our government seems to be even marginally decent at lately?
