Sunday Music: I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
The Proclaimers , which is essentially the Reid twins seen in the video, looked like the kind of guys you'd meet at a computer BBS geek-meet IRL when this song was released in the US in 1993, after being featured in the soundtrack of Benny and Joon. It's impossible for me not to like, and the louder it is the more I love it. It hit #3 in the US. It takes on an even deeper meaning for me currently, as I'm looking at going to work 500 miles or so away from where I am now (not by choice), depending on how things roll in the next month with the Covidiocy Posse. For now, I'm just digging the tune. I hope you do too.

You should check out East Texas.....a bit more than 500 miles. More like an entire galaxy away.....
As soon as we heard this song back then, we bought the cd: "Sunshine on Leith". My husband's favorite song from it is "Sean". It continued to be one of our favorite albums for years, and still is although we gave all our cds to our grandson several years ago.
We owned an antiques mall, and played The Proclaimers along with oldies/classics (Frank Sinatra was a surprising favorite of all age groups), and it never failed to cause someone to ask "Who is that?"

Come to Texas. Not all hospitals are as ornery as the big chains. I bet we have 35 small town/rural hospitals that are searching for a good ER manager (IIRC your current role).
Oh man...you were batting 1.000 until this one. Every other selection has elicited an enthusiastic "YES!" This one...naah. Not awful, but...overplayed, maybe? I have to switch the tune when this comes on. Can't listen to it anymore.
I think we must have listened to KLOS/KROQ/KMET/KITS/KRTH/etc. during the same formative years. Your musical selections almost exactly mirror my own.
Nonetheless, you get several extra points for Jane's Getting Serious a few weeks back, so it's a wash.
The mercy and providence of Christ be with you brother. I am your brother's age (based upon you own postings) and when you said 500 miles, this was my version:
Add '500 Miles' by the Kingston Trio (or Peter, Paul and Mary...but I like the Trio better), and 'City of New Orleans' by Arlo Guthrie and you have a trifecta.
Second only to 'Werewolves of London' by Warren Zevon, 'Lola' by the Kinks, and 'Pinball Wizard' by The Who. Same venue.
We second what Freeholder says... you would be MOST WELCOME in North Carolina. More specifically, WESTERN North Carolina. It's a little bit of heaven on earth, and you know what that's worth (see what I did there?)
Thank you for posting this tune... she-who-must-be-obeyed and I remember when that came out... close to the end of the era of decent music with only a rare exception here and there.
Not counting the news outlets or websites along the full range of accuracy and veracity, I follow multiple actual individuals' handwritten blogs. (Bot news aggregators don't thrill me.) Looking them over, many are current serving or former military and a couple are some variation of high-speed low-drag elite forces ninjas. Or just funny as all. Because life without humor is just despair. So in other words, the same folks I trusted in the military not to wet the bed, sh*t themselves, or otherwise run around like headless Nancys, are the same folks I trust on the interwebz, for demonstrating pretty much the same trustworthiness and circumspectly responsible behavior. Color me shocked.

Try the Scottish version.
You would also be welcomed in North Carolina.

Nice. I remember a parody version, "And I would walk 500 miles but that would make me too damn tired . . ."

"500 Miles" is one of those peppy little songs that is always worth singing if for no other reason than it is silly and makes me happy.
And yes, I always howl along for "Werewolves of London".
