Happy Birthday Jarheads!

It's always a bit of a bitter sweet day. Because this is the anniversary of the day my late uncle died. He was a first Division Marine who went from Inchon to the Chosen Reservoir.

right there with you, Marty. My uncle George, LtC. Burke, fought all the way across the Pacific, retired as a LtC. His headstone says "GSgt G.C. Burke". He was an officer, a Marine's Marine; and was "Gunny" to everyone. R.I.P. Uncle Guns, you aren't forgotten; for what you taught, I am grateful.

The USMC embassy guards in Australia used to run a bar for those in the know on Fridays back in the day. Me and my mates in green had many a happy time there. They were nice guys, and we had similar experiences and views.

It all got spoiled of course when the ragheads started blowing people up, and the bar became a security risk.

One of the guys was SGT Vince Starbuck. I always wondered if he was part of the coffee company.

Anyway...good on you Jarheads. Keep eating those crayons!

That's an actor wearing a costume.

Were no pictures of Chesty, Smedley, Basilone, or R. Lee available?

Given the fact that we hold not one, but two separate honorable discharges for two different hitches from the group in question, we rotate what pictures we post on the Corps' birthday purely according to our own whims. If we wanted any complaints, a Complaint chit would be issued accordingly. If we had decided to post pictures of Johnathan Winters, Lee Marvin, Gene Hackman, Harvey Keitel, or Drew Carey on this day, (actors and former Marines all), it would have been equally appropriate as was posting a picture of the non-Marine who starred in one of the greatest Marine Corps movies of all time. Someone whose internet handle is that of a fictional LAPD detective should probably have gotten that without being told, right? FOWTS.

Jonathon Winters one of two of my favorite comedians I did not know but the others I did. Happy Birthday to the Corp Aesop may God Bless all of you all the days of your lives.

He may have been an actor but his heart was in the right place, about the country as well as every single person that served in whatever capacity. Mine was 66-72, I don't recognize it anymore, neither would This actor, Chesty Puller, Basilone, Smedley Butler, or any of the other greats that wore and and became the green.

Been out of the net but DID raise a glass to our Corps (our "once and future" Corps?) on the 246th. In a few more years this Marine will be 50, having matriculated at Parris Island in the 70's. I hope we have seen the nadir of our Corps and our country.
