Sunday Music: If I Can't Have You

Virtual one-hit wonder and gorgeous island girl Yvonne Elliman pounded this Bee Gees tune all the way to #1 in 1977 as part of the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. She had a few lesser hits before and after, but never returned to the rarified air on top of the whole circus. And allegedly, she kind of freaked out with the success of this song, and more or less withdrew from the music scene afterwards, settled down, and had kids.

I'm glad she cut this track first.

Good for her.
They played that song to death. One of those at least once an hour songs. Gah!
Fun to hear it again, though.

I think you're about 10 years, give or take, younger than me. In the 80s when the BeeGes, et.al. DOMINATED, I have to admit I was swept away. Lord was it fun to hit the dance floor to rock to that. Saturday Night Fever was a touchstone. Man did I have fun.

Night Fever, cut #3, on the soundtrack, is still to this day, a stop what I'm doing and crank it up tune.

Just to hack off half the population: Boy, it must be nice have the option to take a vacation and have kids if your career tanks. :)

It helps when you're married to a record company exec. ;)

She spent many years as Clapton's backing vocalist; harmonies, several lovely duets, really good stuff.

She was Mary Magdalene in the original brown album cover Jesus Christ Superstar and again in the movie.

She looks a lot like Tulsi Gabbard does now.

Badger is right. She features heavily on Clapton's 'Crossroads' live sets and her voice is unmistakeable.
