One To Beam Up: RIP Nichelle Nichols

Aged 89 years, of heart failure.

Even in Hollywood, even in Old Hollywood, it's a pretty rare and special thing to be volun-told you're Jackie Robinson.

Most actors would give their right arm to be typecast like any member of the original crew of the Enterprise was.

Uhura got it done. And a class act all the way.

Thanks for posting that first one. I'd heard the story about her meeting Dr. King in the 50,000 foot level version, but never heard her tell it herself.

She came across wonderfully.

She was a class act! She was a good example of civility and responsibility, both as a person and in her character of Uhura. Her character was competent, hard working, and loyal. Not to mention an attractive woman who didn't have to flaunt that in order to get ahead. She was a much better example than those currently put forth as such by Hollyweird.

back in the day, I'm sure the ((Weinstein)) of that time, would have been after Uhura as quite a prize. For some reason I think she would have ripped his little dick off. But yeah, Nichelle was a babe, and for sure a class act.

Also on Sunday, NBA legend Bill Russell died. More significantly, Samuel Sandoval, one of the very last of the WW2 Navaho code talkers, died at age 98 in Shiprock, NM.
