This Ain't Gonna Work Out Like You Thought

They weren't "Californians" when they landed here, nor when they left here.
They won't magically become such when they get to where you are either.
But you're welcome to all you want.

"You all can go to Hell; I'm going to Texas!" - Rep. David Crockett

According to an article by Tyler Durden linked at RLGore's Straight Line Logic, Crockett's sentiment is shared by a growing number of companies seeking refuge from Califrutopia's confiscatory taxation. Which, make no mistake, is as bad as you've heard. You should RTWT, at either place. But as we've pointed out WRT Durden's prognostications before, what he covers is rarely as important as what he unknowingly overlooks. So stealing a line from the late great Paul Harvey, let's tell you The Rest Of The Story you won't get in the OP either place, in a fitting cautionary tale for Friday the 13th.

One quote in it has 70,000 "Californians" (the vast majority of whom are not, and never were, but we'll leave that point momentarily); the awkward paragraph's next quote has 12,900 (15% of 86,000), unless it was aiming at stating that ex-Californians were 15% of all new Texas arrivals, a number shrouded in vagueness.

So Point One, the minor one, would be to figure out WTF number we're aiming at, if you're seeking some precision beyond vague statements that "a lotta people are going to Texas from Califrutopia", which conveys close to zero actual and useable information.

Point Two, the far greater one, is that most of the people leaving CA are geographical gypsies, and have been their entire adult lives. Having no investment in where they came from they plundered and moved on to greener pastures, exactly as they'll do at their next point of alighting.
That prospect, far more than where they landed and plundered last, should scare hell out of anyone in Texas.

They weren't native Californians, people who carved an oasis out of a desert, built the ships and planes of WWII, entertained the world with world-class stories and music, or feed the world annually from their surplus. And, incidentally, voted solid Republican for most of a century, since the territory was founded as a state.

Texans aren't getting them for neighbors.

They're getting the detritus from everywhere from Pigknuckle to NYFC, the second- and third-raters who couldn't survive in the corrupt scumopolii of the East and Midwest, the ne'er-do-wells whose parents stuck it out in the dustbowl or Appalachia or the deep South until long after all the good jobs were gone, and then only moved to Californy after the welfare hammock there made the trip worthwhile, have now sucked it dry, and have chosen a new clueless rube to rob and loot before the husk here collapses from its own weight.

One might be forgiven for having thought Texas would have learned its lesson in Houston after Katrina, but there's always one bozo who has to grab the hot stove two times to catch on.

Tag, Texas; you're it.

You'll be getting the illegal aliens too shiftless to work here, the ones not quite bright enough to climb the cartel hierarchy, the white trash and Diversity Beans who've timed out their welfare benefits, and the proud younger diplomates from the 49th-ranking educational system in the country.

The ones who voted in Gov. Gray Davis, who bankrupted the state by buying its own power back from Enron at 4 times the market price, then became the first CA governor to get recalled in 100 years; the ones who thought Moonbeam Brown hadn't done enough damage to CA in his first two horrible terms back in the '80s, and gave him two more, those who voted for Clinton and Obozo and Shrillary, and then gave us Gabbin' Nuisance as a follow-up to Moonbeam, now finally termed out in his dottage, all while saddling the entire country with Barbara Boxer, the stupidest senator in the country for pretty much her entire term of service, gun-grabbing Sen. Fineswine, and Speaker Nancy Alzheimers, not once, but now twice, because the first time didn't screw the country up hard enough.
Sen. Kamala Klowncar Kneepads, beside this rogue's gallery, is just a latter-day asterisk.

You're getting their voters. To him who has ears to hear, let him listen.

Look real hard at where Davis, and Pelosi, and Boxer are from (Google it, I triple dog-dare you); that's who voted for them here, too, and that's who's moving to Texas, by demographic inevitability. And hey, Texicans, check out your southern counties, and note how your entire state is purpling up nicely, and due to flip (D) forever inside of 20 years, and then tell yourselves you'll be different, and "it can't happen here".

Don't believe me; ask around in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona. They think they got inundated with "Californians", but mathematics is a rare gift, and they never had the wit to figure out that if all their problem came from here, this state would be as barren  and de-populated as North Dakota or Alaska, even if we threw in half of Mexico here illegally for free.
It simply isn't possible, and never was; those states were inundated not by "Californians", but by people who couldn't ruin Califrutopia fast enough, and just kept moving. We were just the last place they despoiled before moving along. License plates aren't birth certificates, a fact they learned too little, and too slow, if they even know now.

Now it's Texas' turn.

I forward Texas my sincere best wishes dealing with that locust storm, but no matter how I say it, it still comes over as the English translation of a Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times." You're going to do just that; no doubt. And you're going to get what your governors have been recruiting for, good and hard. Based purely on a lifetime's eyewitness observation, let me assure you it will not be anything like what you'd hoped for.

Oh, and you other folks? Substitute the name of your state patch for Texas, as necessary.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

The next uprising will not be North vs. South.
It will not be Coast vs. Hinterland.
It will not be City vs. Country.
It will not be Everywhere Else vs. Califrutopian Hordes.

It's going to be street to street, and house to house.
Wrap your heads around that, and stop bullsh*tting yourselves.
The biggest threat to your existence for the next 40 years is not coming from Califrutopia, NYFC, or the District of Mordor.
It's coming from within 5 miles of your front door, right effing NOW.
And it always was.

Pin The Tail On The Actual Jackasses Responsible

h/t Phil

Your state's fucked up?
Tough shit.
Wanna blame "Californians"? (That would be, by actual count, about 49 other states).
Self-fornicate.
(I can make that plainer if necessary, for the Common Core grads.)

If actual "Californians" had f**ked up all the states people claimed, the population here would now be zero. Trust me, we're nowhere close.

Your states got f**ked up by the exact same toothless, banjo-playing gypsy liberal kinfolk from 45 other states to the east that screwed Califrutopia up, and their illegal alien gardeners and housekeepers.

And someone who screws things up here for a couple of years, then migrates to your patch is no more "Californian" when they leave here than they were when they got here: i.e., Not A Bit.

Pin the tail on the jackasses where it belongs: you're getting screwed by the same liberal idiots who left Back East after they'd ruined it, to come out here and sh*t on everything they found. They're universally from St. Louis, Chicongo, Detroitistan, NYFC, Bahstun, Foolidelphia, and of course, the Baltimorons. And the 30M illegals they all let in because they didn't see them as a problem until they moved all the way to there (for any value of "there" including anywhere up to and including Portland, Maine) and then started breeding like rabbits and bringing up their 57-person extended families.

And you know this is true because nobody born in a state where it's shorts weather and 72° year around moves away from that to states where it snows in winter, or rains 360 days a year. Only people who were raised on 12' of snowfall annually do something like that.

QED

But I'll tell you what:
I'll pay you a $1 for every actual native Californian who moved to your state, if you pay me a nickel for every transplant from anywhere else, and you'll buy me a Ferrari for cash just on my profits from that deal.

I've met far more liberal idiots down here driving around with OR and NV license tags than I ever heard of people I grew up with who were born here, who then moved to either place. (And to further illustrate the point, license tags don't make them Oregonians or Nevadans either; such people are invariably malcontent gypsies in all cases.)
It's easy to blame CA, but someone who comes here from BFE, tags up, and moves to your patch is no more "Californian", than Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gray Davis, Barbara Boxer, or Nancy Pelosi.

You could look it up. ;)

And at the end of the day, it's simple:
Sooner or later, you're going to have to burn your problem children out.
Nothing less will suffice, and it's the only thing they really understand.
So it's either that, or get used to being screwed over forever.

Meantime, quit blaming the Imaginary Boogiemen from Califrutopia for your problems.
It simply ain't so, it's demographically and mathematically impossible for it to be so, and anyone who got past 4th grade would know that if they looked at it for two minutes. Your problems came from 40+ contiguous states east of you, and twenty countries south of San Diego. Like always.

Sorry if that reality stings where it landed, but that's how it goes. Own your own butthurt.

Where I Am, And Why I'm Staying

In reference to this thread over at Wirecutter's Knuckledraggin' My Life Away, about a new CA-compliant mag (reviewed by Tam, no less, review linked in the OP) to workaround the latest semi-auto "assault rifle" frenzy in state capitol Excremento, CA, bloghost Kenny and I have gone back and forth.

And when I write a reply this long, you can damned sure bet it's going to be a post here, because laziness, or thrift. I killed and cooked these electrons, and now they're on the menu here.

So please, read the OP and the replies over there, and then join our show, already in progress:

"First, terminology:
When I say ARs I mean CA's misnamed "assault rifles" of all types.
There are easily 10M of those floating around.
One retailer in SoCal has been selling 1000-1500/week for over 10 years. That's 3+M right there.

But as the Legos of the gun world, AR-15 clones are definitely the most numerous.
The people that own them own multiples.
At one point a full-built AR-15 clone was cheaper than most decent handguns from the Big Three.
Guys would walk in and buy 10 AR-clone lowers for $500-700, then have the completion parts - uppers, lower parts kits, etc. - (all not a firearm) shipped to their door.
I know multiple people who have enough to fill a military armory rack or two, and they're average.
Varmint/target shooter, couple of telescoping stock M-4geries, solid stock, .300 Blackout, 2-4 in pistol calibers from 9mm to .45, and then got bit by the .308/AR-10 bug.
It adds up.
That's not 25% of the state's pop., probably more like a couple of million folks, but it's a crapton of rifles, and I've seen it at gun counters times beyond counting, as a customer, and as occasional help.
I won't say how many I have, or had, but I've sold two extras, and have a number of unbuilt lowers just gathering dust, besides the rifles.
And I'll probably buy some more de-nutted featureless ones just to have something I can take to a local range.
The only place I can't shoot non-conforming ones is in-state, in public.
Private land ranges are catch me-fuck me if I dared, but pulling the takedown pins, and going to Vegas or AZ with boxes of parts is a semi-annual event. It takes 5 minutes to make a shootable rifle, and five more to make it a gaggle of parts I can own but not assemble in-state. So I break no laws coming nor going.
And I can attend courses out-of-state anywhere I want to drive.
If someone can't afford a tank of gas and a weekend off, I feel for them.
And yeah, this state's going to go broke, and self-destruct. I'm counting on it. And I'm not alone.
But I'll surrender this portion of American territory to the people making it Calizuela when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
I'm glad you're happy where you are, really I am, but I was born here, and I'll die here. And when the whole rotten Stalinist wet dream they've fornicated it into being comes down in a flaming wreck, I like my odds of getting my state back, because no one in the other 49 is going to give two wet farts to helping them out when they go bankrupt. Please, don't!
That's a feature to me, not a bug.
Hate on the Leftards in Excremento all you like; I share your opinion of them. There is nothing too evil, too stupid, or both, that they wouldn't do.
And them going down like Soviet Russia is the plan. It happens every time it's been tried.
Maybe grandkids can experience what this state was like when I grew up here. Once 10M illegals self-deport, and the toothless banjo-playing misfits of liberalism from the Other 49 move back in with their cousins, because there's no more welfare gravy train here.
Just don't hate on people because they don't want to join you in your Appalachian paradise. (Besides, if we all did that, and TN's population was doubled by refugee "Californians", you'd hate it, the locals' kids would be priced out of their home state, and you'd just want to move again, amirite?) There's really no place to run in the long run. And if TN starts getting stupid, like FL and TX and ID and MT are already doing, where to next...? (Oh, and bonus points, even though it won't be your fault, you'll be blamed anyway as being one of those " damned Californians who f****d up the state" you're in now if/when that happens. Even though that will probably be New Yorkers other east coast city folk and such.)
I wish it was actual Californians crapping in their punchbowl (for any value of that from Oregon to Florida); it'd be fair return for what their misfit cousins did to CA.
I'm happy for anyone who's happy where they live, especially those who love their home state, natural or adopted. I've seen most of this country, and there's plenty of reason to like where you are, wherever that is. (Buffalo and Cleveland probably excepted.)
But I'm pissed as hell about what's been done to mine, and I plan on being an ornery disagreeable sonofabitch to those that are screwing that pooch here until I see them on fire, or swinging from lampposts.
Pensions alone are going to blow the whole thing up in a few more years, if the entire world's economy doesn't take the mother of all sh*ts first.
And then, those readily-convertible-but-legal-now ARs may come in kind of handy.
Which is exactly what keeps @$$holes like CA senators Fineswine and Kneepads up sleepless at night.
I hope you can understand that, even though it's not the course of action you chose.
And I salute the makers of any device, like the magazine mentioned in the OP that sabotages our would-be overlords' attempts to de-gun the populace. The lazy asstards who decided CA was "too hard" to sell products to can kiss my @$$, eat sh*t, and die.
But the ones who've gone out of their way to monkeywrench socialism here from where they are, like his holiness, St. Ronnie Barrett, who made a CA-compliant M-82 that isn't a .50BMG just to piss off the liberals in this state, and won't repair cop .50BMGs until they let civilians here buy them, are rock stars.
Thanks for the time and the space, Kenny.
And keep doing what you do.
It's funny as hell every day, and a better news source than ABCNNBCBS and Drudge, combined, whether you meant for it to be or not.
