We noted that any 27 blogs yesterday (find them yourself, we won't point fingers) reported breathlessly (and witlessly, which we'll deal with anon) that "Pentagon admits US troops in Ukraine!!!! OMG!!! World War Eleventy!!!!!"...

The US has had military attachés in foreign countries for over 120 years. The US embassy in Kyiv was opened in 1992, within days of Ukraine's declared independence from the former Soviet Union. The defense attachés there undoubtedly include multiple officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as they do in over 100 US embassies worldwide, including any country of military, economic, or strategic importance.
Yes, we have "troops in Ukraine." So what the Internet Field Marshals are posting as if it's earth-shattering news is something that's been true for only something like thirty years.
And frankly, if the US military (and every other nation) doesn't have their minions watching every single thing of military significance in that conflict, and sending back daily and weekly telephone-book thick reports on literally everything - from the performance of Western and Russian weapons systems, to the wool content of their troops' socks and winter underwear, then everyone in our and any 57 other militaries above the rank of colonel is a retarded fuckwit guilty of gross professional negligence.
To the contrary, I'd be shocked to find out we haven't already sent entire intact Russian tanks and Mig cockpits wrapped in HD black plastic and duct-taped all around with "US Diplomatic Pouch", the contents protected by treaty and international law, shipped by rail to ports in Poland and Germany, to be forwarded to our foremost actual military experts here.
That's what your tax dollars are supposed to pay for.
We had military people watching German troops in person in Spain in 1936, and Japan in China in 1937, and have done the same thing back to at least 1901 if not far earlier.
If the Pentagon admits we have military advisors or actual military units present for duty in Ukraine other than that, then all these Captain Obvious military ignoramusii will be onto something. Not before.
If anyone is surprised to learn the above, and this comes as great surprise to their sparse data bank of military knowledge, they aren't tall enough to be posting on the interent, and there's an award rocker for that:

Alec Baldwin Day
We should have thought of this sooner.
Let's end the rancor over this @$$clown's clowncarnucopia of fail, and instead unite over something we can all agree upon.
As even his schlocky cheapass movie title proves, Rust is the enemy of guns. We must therefore keep this chowderhead from killing anyone else with them. There's only one solution for that: Buy them yourselves, to protect them from him. Or vice versa.
We therefore happily proclaim now and henceforth, in perpetuity, October 21st shall evermore be known and celebrated as Alec Baldwin Day!

(CNN) An assistant director handed Alec Baldwin a prop firearm and yelled "cold gun" before the actor fired and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza, according to a court document.
The "cold gun" remark was meant to indicate that the weapon did not have live rounds, according to an affidavit for a search warrant for the movie set filed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office and obtained by CNN affiliate KOAT.According to the affidavit, Baldwin was handed one of three prop guns by assistant director David Halls that were set up in a cart by an armorer.Halls did not know there were live rounds in the gun, the affidavit said.
But when the actor fired the gun, a live round hit Hutchins, 42, in the chest and wounded Souza, 48, who was nearby, according to the affidavit.
Hutchins was pronounced dead at the hospital after being airlifted, the affidavit says.Before Thursday's shooting, some crew members quit the production over concerns related to safety -- including gun inspections, according to the Los Angeles Times and other media reports.Three crew members who were on the set last weekend told the Times there were two accidental prop gun discharges before Thursday.The rounds were accidentally fired October 16 by Baldwin's stunt double after he was told the gun was "cold," two of the crew members, who witnessed the discharges, told the newspaper.
"Cold guns" aren't supposed to be loaded, particularly during rehearsals, a weapons expert told CNN on Friday.
"You have to make sure that the weapon is truly cold, which means there should have been no rounds in there, period. And especially if it's a rehearsal," Bryan Carpenter, an armorer and weapons master in the film industry, told CNN.
Carpenter added that while it's acceptable for some actors to want to get a feel of a weapon during rehearsals, it's crucial to ensure the prop guns are not filled with any rounds. He noted that weapons on sets should be confirmed "cold" by two people to avoid such tragic incidents.
Prop department weapons handler fucked up. She'd better be retaining counsel, because she'll likely be tried for involuntary manslaughter and looking at 18 months in prison, under NM criminal statutes.
And she's going to die on welfare after losing everything she owns, for life, in the civil suit.

(L.A. Slimes) Three crew members who were present at the Bonanza Creek Ranch set on Saturday said they were particularly concerned about two accidental prop gun discharges.
Baldwin’s stunt double accidentally fired two rounds Saturday after being told that the gun was “cold” — lingo for a weapon that doesn’t have any ammunition, including blanks — two crew members who witnessed the episode told the Los Angeles Times.
“There should have been an investigation into what happened,” a crew member said. “There were no safety meetings. There was no assurance that it wouldn’t happen again. All they wanted to do was rush, rush, rush.”
A colleague was so alarmed by the prop gun misfires that he sent a text message to the unit production manager. “We’ve now had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe,” according to a copy of the message reviewed by The Times.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was huddled around a monitor lining up her next camera shot when she was accidentally killed by the prop gun fired by Baldwin.
The actor was preparing to film a scene in which he pulls a gun out of a holster, according to a source close to the production. Crew members had already shouted “cold gun” on the set. The filmmaking team was lining up its camera angles and had yet to retreat to the video village, an on-set area where the crew gathers to watch filming from a distance via a monitor.
Instead, the B-camera operator was on a dolly with a monitor, checking out the potential shots. Hutchins was also looking at the monitor from over the operator’s shoulder, as was the movie’s director, Joel Souza, who was crouching just behind her.
Baldwin removed the gun from its holster once without incident, but the second time he did so, ammunition flew toward the trio around the monitor. The projectile whizzed by the camera operator but penetrated Hutchins near her shoulder, then continued through to Souza. Hutchins immediately fell to the ground as crew members applied pressure to her wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
The person in charge of overseeing the gun props, known as the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, could not be reached for comment. The 24-year-old is the daughter of veteran armorer Thell Reed and had recently completed her first film as the head armorer for the movie “The Old Way,” with Clint Howard and Nicolas Cage.
One and a half movies, followed by one and a half years in prison for manslaughter.
So when she gets out of prison she'll only be about 27, and can still get a job at Starbucks. But she'll never work in Hollywood, and she'll never handle another weapon legally for the rest of her life. Getting somebody killed because you were careless is a tough way to learn weapon safety. Bummer for her, but life is tougher when you're stupid.
The woman responsible for handling weapons on the set of Alec Baldwin's "Rust" had only recently taken on a gig as a head armorer, and shared she had real doubts about doing the job.
(TMZ)Hannah Reed -- daughter of Hollywood armorer Thell Reed -- appeared on the "Voices of the West" podcast last month to talk about her new experiences in the biz. Reed told the hosts she had just wrapped a western movie with Nic Cage called "The Old Way" ... and it was her first time as head armorer on a movie.
In a now-eerie confession, Reed says of the Cage job, "You know, I was really nervous about it at first, and I almost didn't take the job because I wasn't sure if I was ready ... but, doing it, like, it went really smoothly."
Reed also talked about the guidance she's gotten from her dad -- who has previously worked on "Django: Unchained" "3:10 to Yuma" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" -- as an armorer.
In talking about her training, Reed told the podcast hosts loading blanks in prop guns was "the scariest" thing to her, because she didn't know how to do it ... but it was something her dad had helped her work through.
Of course, there are still a lot of questions surrounding the accident on set ... including whether it was a live round in the gun Baldwin fired or a blank. Indiewire obtained an email sent by the propmasters union which claimed the gun Alec Baldwin fired had a "live single round" which struck 2 crew members.
A source who was working on the film tells us just last weekend there were several issues with blanks being shot when they weren't supposed to ... it's unclear who the head armorer was at that time.
There ya go: prop fuck-up during a rehearsal, on a low-budget shoot, with an inexperienced weapons handler.
(Thell Reed, BTW, is 78 years old, and worked in Hollywood since at least the 1950s, starting with Gunsmoke. When he was a teenager. Obviously, some skills aren't hereditary.)
Unless some fantastical new angle comes out, kids, what say let's just assume that if I blog something, I probably know exactly WTF I'm talking about until proven otherwise?
It's fun for me, but peeling your face off the brick wall has got to be painful for some folks out there eager to jump on the "Punk Baldwin" bandwagon.
He's a producer on the movie, so though not morally nor legally culpable personally, he's going to be ass-raped in civil court by the victims/families of. He's effectively done. At his age, you don't bounce back from this, and 50/50 this movie never gets finished.

Two black-masked and Antifa-hoodied @$$holes outside a nearby post office, filming everyone coming and going, physically stopping people from entering with no authority and saying "Temperature check!", while photographing and video and audio recording them without prior consent as they entered. Including moi. And then instigating and provoking the people telling them to knock it off, pushing for a fight.

Yes, two people performing unlawful detentions, trespassing on federal property and loitering with intent, harassing customers coming and going and creating a disturbance, stalking, recording people without their consent, and filming without a permit. There's two of them, so that would be a felony criminal conspiracy to do all of the same. IANAL, but I'm pretty sure that's about seven misdemeanors and two felonies, as we speak..."
Two minutes later, two of the city's finest show up, and five minutes after that, both of the offenders leave in handcuffs. Game Over? Oh no. Games are just beginning.
Now they can do their First Amendment Check from inside the county jail, and once the particulars go online, I can also file a civil action. I haven't decided how butthurt I am, but lawyers' fees and whatever the going rate of punishment tax would seem to be in order.
Hopefully, after they pawn their cameras, they'll still have enough money for rent, if they ever get out of jail before trial. If not, hopefully they have friends who'll send the soap-on-a-rope, or they may make some new shower friends in the lock-up.
You want to film non-national defense public buildings, or record police officers' public actions? That's 1st Amendment protected, so ROWYBS. I'd have sent you bail money if you'd been arrested for doing that.
But you have no right to film everyone about their private business, record their likeness and voice for monetized Youtube bux without their signed consent, harass and stalk them for calling you out on it, nor loiter and trespass on federal property to perform all of the above.
In an open carry state, they might have had that conversation at gunpoint while waiting for their black-and-white taxi service. As it is, they're both lucky no one had pepper spray and an itch to make a point.
And next, the postal inspectors can refer them to the US Attorney for federal charges.
Learn all of the relevant laws, or pay the price for fucking around and finding out, you stupid bastards.

I can tell you this based on watching 5 minutes so far, of a 68 minute video.

This was like watching a gun "expert" who shoots himself in the foot in the beginning minute of his lecture.
I asked four doctors at work this week about the (now banned) video; they'd all seen it, and I got three facepalms, and one double facepalm, by way of their thoughts on the content. The latter from someone who went to medical school with them. Emergency medicine is a very small pond, as it turns out.
But it also turns out I wasn't the only one to see through their bullshit in about a minute.
Besides about a hundred YouTube and Twitter takedowns of their ascientific horsesh...er, rose fertilizer, everyone not wowed by their name-imprinted scrub tops has pretty much debunked every bit of malarkey they pimped last week. To the point that even the MSM has taken official notice of what legendary internet idiots they were:
(KQED) Drs. Dan Erickson and Artin Massihi, co-owners of Accelerated Urgent Care, which offers Bakersfield’s only private walk-in COVID-19 testing site, held a press conference on April 22 to report their conclusions about COVID-19 test results. During the conference, broadcast on YouTube, the doctors said that 12% of Californians tested so far have been infected. Extrapolating that to the general population, they estimated that as many as 5 million Californians have likely contracted the virus. They then used the total number of COVID-19 deaths statewide (roughly 1,200, as of last week) to calculate a death rate of just 0.03% — similar to the average death rate from seasonal flu.
"Millions of cases, small amount of death," Erickson stressed repeatedly during the press conference, saying fears about the virus were overblown and questioning the need for widespread quarantine measures.
But public health experts were quick to point out the major flaws in the doctors’ methodology – namely that only a tiny percentage of Californians have actually been tested, a group that is more likely to test positive and is not representative of the larger population.
They were also quick to debunk the doctors’ findings as misguided and riddled with statistical errors — and an example of the kind of misleading information they are forced to waste precious time disputing.
The doctors should never have assumed that the patients they tested — who came for walk-in COVID-19 tests or who sought urgent care for symptoms they experienced in the middle of a pandemic — are representative of the general population, said Dr. Carl Bergstrom, a University of Washington biologist who specializes in infectious disease modeling. He likened their extrapolations to “estimating the average height of Americans from the players on an NBA court.” And most credible studies of COVID-19 death rates are far higher than the ones the doctors presented.
“They’ve used methods that are ludicrous to get results that are completely implausible,” Bergstrom said.
In a rare statement late Monday, the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine declared they “emphatically condemn the recent opinions released by Dr. Daniel Erickson and Dr. Artin Messihi. These reckless and untested musings do not speak for medical societies and are inconsistent with current science and epidemiology regarding COVID-19. As owners of local urgent care clinics, it appears these two individuals are releasing biased, non-peer reviewed data to advance their personal financial interests without regard for the public’s health.”
Those who support continuing to shelter in place described the doctors as self-promoters whose chain of urgent care centers would benefit from reopening. Non-COVID medical visits have plummeted during the pandemic, they note, endangering the practices of many doctors.
“As struggling business owners, their economic frustration is understandable. But it can’t be mistaken for science. People trust doctors,” Michigan emergency room doctor Rob Davidson wrote on Twitter. “When they tell Fox viewers to ignore recommendations from real experts, many will believe them. ... The impact of rejecting science-proven recommendations in exchange for these erroneous ideas would overwhelm health systems and cost lives. While re-opening the economy might be good for their Urgent Care Centers (sic), it would kill medical personnel on the actual front lines.”Word to your mother: ACEP and AAME aren't political organs, they're professional organizations, representing not two urgent care doctors, but 31,000 and 37,000 (respectively) board-certified emergency room physicians, and they tend to stay apolitical. So when they tell you you're full of shit, jointly, in public, in front of everyone, and make a special web page to make an example out of you and call you out as poster children for how not to do your job, it's the equivalent of the Pope telling a priest he'd better re-think his doctrine, as the archbishops start pilling up bundles of kindling, straw, and wood around the priest's feet.
The inside-baseball word is that these two wingnuts may have their board certifications challenged with BCEM, and have it pulled as a result of being this egregiously and publicly stupid. They're concerned, based on video views before it was pulled, that the average person can't tell the difference between these two jackasses, and any other ER doctor.
There are limits, it seems, to how big a jackass ACEP /AAEM will tolerate, and still allow someone to practice as a certified emergency doctor.
Which means business at those two idiots' urgent care center is about to take an even bigger turn for the worse.
I've told you before, half of all doctors (nurses, veterinarians, and everyone else) graduated in the bottom half of their class. There's no crime per se in that, but it also means their degree or license doesn't trump everyone with more IQ points than they have, who subsequently points out their shortcomings. With a flamethrower.
But those of you desperate for anything to bolster a weak position probably shouldn't so quickly latch onto guys willing to set themselves on fire, personally and professionally, just to tout conclusions based on something they mined from deep up their own hindquarters.
It never ends well, for anyone.

So apparently this week (not while I was there), two patients checked into the ER as possible Kung Flu victims.
Here's a snapshot of what happened next:
Are they positive for Kung Flu?
We don't know. Test results pending.
How many friends and family might they have exposed?
We don't know.
Who exposed them?
We don't know.
How long ago were they exposed?
We don't know.
How many staff and patients were exposed?
We don't know.
How many staff were in appropriate isolation PPE when they arrived?
None.
How many wore proper PPE while they were assessed, treated initially, and prior to admission?
Probably nowhere near all of them.
How many of those exposed or possibly exposed are being tracked down, and placed into exposure surveillance, mandatory, voluntary, or anyfuckingkind whatsoever?
None.
How many are in quarantine isolation?
None.
The patients are in isolation while test results are pending, and the staff in-hospital are dealing with them appropriately.
Now.
But no one is taking this seriously, nor did they before Thing 1 and Thing 2 showed up last week.
You'll know TPTB are taking this seriously when they start sending out dedicated EMS rigs to deal with pickups, already wearing Ebola-style hazmat gear.
And when hospitals have separate triage and assessment areas, let alone treatment areas, for potential Kung Flu cases.
We have none of that.
No one does.
Anywhere.
There are already two healthcare workers in NorCal testing positive for Kung Flu.
From whom?
We don't know.
From how long ago?
We don't know.
How many other people were exposed going back how long?
We don't know.

And FYI: Two weeks ago, the entire hospital staff had to be re-fit tested for N95 masks (after we had already done so once) because exactly as noted in this post at WRSA, all the N95 masks in the entire hospital grew legs and walked out the door.
They re-supplied with another model two weeks ago, just before they disappeared nationwide, and N95s are now doled out and kept in full lockdown until needed.

This means the charges filed are moot, the statute(s) under which said students were arrested is moot, their arrests constitute false arrest, false imprisonment, and kidnapping under color of authority; and every action subsequently taken by anyone in any position, from the Chancellor of the University to the superior court judge in this case and down to the janitor in the men's gymnasium, constitutes an entirely prima facie deprivation of constitutional rights.
The two fuckwits involved have just been handed at minimum an 8-figure civil lawsuit payday (which should be assessed to the officers of the university, not the taxpayers of CT), free tuition through post-doctoral level at U Conn, a written apology from all concerned, a cease-and-desist order that's liable to be stamped by a federal appeals court, at minimum, and full-fledged civil rights Constitutional law martyr status never even achieved by Martin Luther King, Jr.
In short, while it may not be physically healthy, depending on the mob present, to do so, if you want to secure a first-rate free college education for your child at U Conn, and a lifetime salary for doing nothing else, simply have them walk through the parking lots yelling "NIGGERS! NIGGERS! NIGGERS!" until the Keystone Klown Kops of U. Konnecticut show up and arrest them for something that cannot ever be an arrestable offense in the United States.

And if true justice were visited, the U.S. Attorney thereabouts would arrest the entire state board of directors of the University, the president and dean of students, and the entire UConn police force, for criminal constitutional violations and conspiracy to commit same.
I hope the morons who tried to pass and enforce this get the judicial ass-reaming they richly deserve for this kind of horseshit, and if they persist, they need summary judgment by shotguns in the face, just to drive the point well home.

And I'd rather not have cranked out this post.
I had thought the prior butthurt from Angus over open carry stupidity had been patched up.
Clearly, I was mistaken.

This isn't hard, and it isn't a trick question.
My answer at McThag's blogsite, was that #2 is scarier.
And to my best recollection, for the following reasons:

Cops are humanly stupid, and handing them a bigger hammer means the mistakes get bigger as a result.
#2 concerns me far more, because there's not a damned thing I can do about it, doubly so if it's coming after me personally, short of multiple felonies and one or more homicides.
So #2 is definitely scarier.
Now, we move on to which is stupider?
#1, by contrast, is simply enormously jackassically stupid.
#1 I can do something about, starting with beating the individual responsible (at least metaphorically) over the head with the exact bag of hammers he's using for brains, because a jackass is a jackass.
#1 (the fucktard with a slung carbine at the food court) is not a civil rights warrior, he's an attention whore with an exhibitionist fetish. (The two guys with holstered pistols I couldn't give two fucks about, in case that wasn't clear to Angus. They should rock on.)
The rest of my comments regarded an agreement with the stupidity of Califrutopia's laws regarding almost any open carry, contrary to the tide in 45 or so other states.

The Founders weren't idiots, and the words of each amendment in the Bill of Rights were not lightly nor randomly selected.

I think I'm on damned fine ground that the Second Amendment said "arms" because the whole damned arsenal was up for ownership, not just pistols and rifles.

And if some guy had a frigate, and permission from Uncle Sugar to do it, and was selling spots to hunt pirates in any of a dozen worldwide trouble spots, you and I know the sign-up list of spots would be sold out in 30 minutes, with lines around the block.

You want to pack a pistol, openly or concealed, no problem.
Notice nowhere did I state nor even mildly suggest that you should be accosted, flung to the ground by law enforcement, dragged by the heels to a mental institution, nor shot on sight by other folks, simply for being such a public fuckwit.
(That it will happen anyways 99 times out of 100 is both a bonus for society, and more proof that I'm right, and you're wrong, and just gives the police grounds and probable cause to go too far in the future, because you couldn't color inside the lines of common sense, like everyone should, except in extreme situations. But citizens, as a general rule, shouldn't be toting long arms - rifle or shotgun - for the same reasons police officers shouldn't go everywhere with them in their hands either.

Tell me I'm wrong: tell me you want Officer Friendly to have a shotgun in his mitt when he pulls you over for a traffic infraction any time he feels like it, or interviews you about some matter of interest.
