Prigozhin has appeared in a new video from Africa, where he notes that reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated. $64 Question: Is it live, or is it Memorex? |
The video obviously could have been shot shortly before his death, and thus has been overtaken by events. Bummer for Priggie, who would thus be an ex-parrot.
But if another video pops up, some FSB assclowns are going to discover the meaning of "defenestrtration", experientially. Bummer for Vlad.
My money's on success, based on historical precedent and Putin's experience in capping his enemies. Time will tell, but it's not on Vlad's side in this. Grab some popcorn.
If he successfully nipped his Wagner problem in the bud, Vlad had better habeas a pretty damned convincing Prigozhin corpus, and do it tout de suit, or speculation on his continued incompetence is going to be the kind that moves his Makarov retirement party a couple of uncomfortable notches closer to kicking off.

Like the decades of fake Osama bin Laden videos they would drag out wherever they needed more war spending...when everyone knows he died in 2002.
Um, no.
The Taliban would drag those out for recruitment, and to afflict The Great Satan.
If we'd capped him a moment earlier, do you seriously, and in a narcotic free state of mind, think Dubbya or the entire government would've held off on releasing the news for immediate political gain? Or that Obozo wouldn't have released it to embarrass Dubbya after his term had ended?!?
Put the bong down, man.
My instrument landing system for flying pigs has a higher probability of reality than that.
this video provides an interesting coda to the situation.
we shall see what we shall see.
though if he IS alive, then he and Vlad need to talk DAMN soon.

To answer your question: YES. I know They had Bin Laden under surveillance at least two years before action was taken. Isong the same logic... when does it suit my best interest to take him out?
You're still skipping the obligatory middle problem:
Knowing where someone is ≠ any ability whatsoever to do anything about that.
That's been the central problem for US counter-terrorism efforts since the 1970s.
Including for Bin Laden.
If he's alive, I'm thinking Putin will sharpen his skills and do a better job in the near future.
He may be alive, but my sources say the video is old.
I wouldn't be surprised if the video is real. There is a strong Russian tradition of deception that I'm sure P is aware of, and I'm sure he planned to quietly go one way while publicly appearing to go another way, at least until he got to a safer place like a chunk of Africa under his control...

this would be a good use for AI.
make a video of him, sitting on a cot in a dirty basement somewhere, with a single line.
"missed me, bitch."
then start putting out orders that look like he wrote them.
The current not-even-bleeding-edge AI could make that video, with Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin doing a spirited fandango over the grave of Idi Amin in the background.
Believe nothing you see, hear, or read on the Internets....
Aesop and team,
Dates:
* Plane crash was 8/23.
* A copy of the video in evidence is for our purposes time stamped here -- https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/prigozhin-video-africa-wagner-russia-rcna101130 -- sourcing date of the article is 8/22, hence the vid had to have been cut on or before that date.
Hope it clears the timeline up.
Now it magnifies the stupidity of Putin's minions. Were it me, I would have made sure the plane crashed somewhere over the Sahara. Nice and remote of course so discovery takes longer if at all. It would be better that Prigozhin be 'lost' than a martyr.

Skip the tinfoil, and shave with Occam's Razor: This vid is far likelier to be simply pre-Putincide deliberately and inconveniently released, rather than AI.
Future ones, however, especially world-class AI, could be hilariously embarrassing for Pootie-poot to brush off.
Expect them to follow in droves, for exactly that reason.
It's easy to trigger Russian paranoia, because it's endemic to the culture.
