On this we agree completely. I make it a point to wish my family and coworkers a Happy Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day every 6th and 9th. The largest example of FAFO ever.

Dad was in the south Pacific in WW2, a Navy Seabee. He was on Guam when we dropped the bombs.
My wife's father was also a Navy man. Set to ship out to the war in the Pacific.
I don't think either one of us would have been here, had we not have nuked them.
Same goes for a good portion of your readership.
Thanks for reminding us of why is was done.

My Dad's 18th birthday present. He was in uniform, learning Japanese and training for an invasion that thankfully was unnecessary.

As a wise man once said "Don't start nothin', won't BE nothin'"

And that's how you end a war.

I've always been of the opinion that, when these little pissant countries like Iran and NORK and Pakistan start trying trying to flex their non-existant muscles on the world stage, we should launch an unarmed ICBM aimed at something like a soccer stadium in their country's capitol which buries the whole rocket body about 100 feet into the ground, leaving a giant smoking hole in what used to be a soccer pitch, followed up by a letter stating something like "smarten up and become good global citizens or the next ones will armed. Ask the Japanese how that worked out for them." What's the point of having this capability if you don't use one occasionally when the situation warrants it to send a clear message to stop the FA or they will surely FO.
