Mike wrote this hit, for which the Monkees played their own instruments, as the band escaped the lab, and became the actual group the network never counted on. Peter Tork had the ultimate take "For a group the critics said was no good, we sure sold a lot of records..."

not their best, but I'm a fan from when they were a tv show.
Pleasant Valley Sunday and Goin' Down come to mind.
Always enjoyed them,and caught their show (in syndication!) whenever it was on.
Watched documentary on “The Wrecking Crew” last week. Monkees went to the studio the first day scheduled for recording their first album to discover they were not actually going to be playing any of the songs, all done by the Wrecking Crew studio musicians.
They fought for their place in music. They succeeded. Good choice.
