Sunday Music: Southern Cross

Stephen Stills reworked another tune into CSN's Top Twenty hit from 1982 (no one, including the Bloghost, misses Neil Young, and I've also heard a Southern man don't need him around, anyhow), which also features back-up vocals by Art Garfunkel, and Eagles bass player Timothy B. Schmidt. CSN was moving into their third decade of hit-making, which we choose as we begin revisiting acts that rate a second offering for our weekly track selection.

Fabulous. I got to hear him sing it on top a table at newly opened - but short-lived - tapas restaurant in the French Quarter of New Orleans what seems like a million years ago. Walked out of the kitchen unannounced with only a guitar, wearing a blue suit that could have belonged to his big brother. Breathtaking, really.

From an old jarhead who grew up in the 60s-70s and sailed westpacs a few times I thought the southern cross as a kid I'd never lay eyes on. Well, I did and years ago I understood why I went that way. I was in search of the woman-girl in an exotic land and found her in what seems to be in another lifetime and to this day my love is an anchor tied to her. Memories.........
