But...But...But...Crooks. Pimps. Corruptocrats. Basketcase!

h/t Daily timewaster

Okay. So...when was the last time your mayor drew a machinegun and stood a post in your city's defense? Most times you can't even find the m*****f*****s even filling sandbags or staffing the serving line in a soup kitchen.

So maybe save your boob bait for the bubbas.

It's looking like the story is a little more nuanced than the Putin-schlong-slobberers will admit.

I hope hizzoner here gives Ivan what-for. He doesn't look to be the cut-and-run type, and he sure as hell doesn't look like Dukakis riding around in a tank helmet, Obozo trying to hold a shotgun, or Fat Bill scanning the Nork border positions with the lens caps firmly affixed to his binoculars.

I could be mistaken, but given the circumstances, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Per Ukrainian sources, all those directions say "Go F**K yourselves",
except the one that says "Go F**K yourselves in Russia".
Even if this is photoshopped, it's still funny as hell.

Shoot our mayor was very brave in the face of police she told to stand down while leading the BLM and Antifa mobs burning down uptown. Then she had Black Lives Matter painted in the street.

Dude looks a hard-case alright.
I'm old enough to well remember Iran-Iraq and this stirs the same ambivalence. The tactical lessons will be more intetesting, I'm thinking.
I'm more concerned with Taiwan and find them far more worthy of cheering on.

I suspect that at least some of the "Putin-schlong-slobberers" are in fact actual Russians trying to sway US opinion as best they can. Putin had English-speaking commenters on conservative US websites arguing his case while pretending to be westerners back when he first started moving into the Crimea, IIRC. The Belmont Club, at that time (before PJ Media moved to Discus) one of the best blogs and commentary section on the web, had two long-time commenters who turned out to be probably Russian agents - "Mr. X," who was supposedly a American businessman living in Russia, and "Marie-Claude," who was supposedly a Frenchwoman but whose English language skills kept deteriorating and then recovering.

Read your GAF post. Good points all.
Still though yes, paying attention, but I have zero influence on the conduct or outcome of this fracas (same goes for China-Taiwan for that matter).
It's more interesting and educational that watching sportsball certainly; but I'm not to the pins-in-maps stage for whatever good that would do me.
Gropey Joe might think this is distracting from all of his idiocies and shenanigans but it's not for me; and those are things of more direct impact to me at this point.

I don't believe anything I'm hearing out of that part of the world. Everyone has an agenda.

I've spent far too much time reading up on this in the last few days, instead of doing something useful, like building more units for my Warhammer 40K Necron army.

I see Nazis such as Andrew Anglin hailing Putin, along with Ann Barnhardt, while others are praising the corruptocrat Zelensky, who happens to be Jewish.

Then we have the French deciding to seize Russian ships, which is causus belli. Not to mention the insanity coming from Elon Musk in making his Starlink system available for the Ukrainians. Uh, that constitutes an act of war by my book. I like Musk, at least his space operations, but this? If I was the feds, I'd be closing down all of his operations.

Frankly, I think the isolationists such as Pat Buchanan are making the best, rational arguments for US non-involvement, See https://www.unz.com/pbuchanan/did-we-provoke-putins-war-in-ukraine/

YMMV, and I expect to get roasted. As long as you don't throw a chair at me, as one (drunk) manager did a long time ago.

Zelensky, even if muchly photo-oping, is at least making a statement to his people. Sure is a different reaction from a very much non-politician-turned-politician as opposed to a career politician.

I have a very good Ukrainian friend in her 80s (think lived through WWII) who tells me the Ukranian people are a fiercly patriotic bunch and will make it costly for Putin.

I'm not for one foot of ours involved in it all, but I'd have sent them any hardware I could, BEFOREhand.

Kiev has a population of about 2.9 million and an annual budget of around 2.5 billion USD (as of 2020; couldn't be arsed to find the 2022 budget). The mayor of such a major city has at least the responsibility of a brigadier. Should someone with stars, or star-equivalents, be playing grunt manning a machine gun?

This is either clumsy propaganda, or the man is an idiot, or he's an utter fool shirking his duties.

@Mike_C,
I'm guessing there's not a lot of day-to-day city business on the council agenda right now, and given the current sitrep, this doesn't sound like dereliction of duty, rather the exact opposite.

Vitally was an absolutely scary heavyweight. I’m not the least bit surprised he’s willing, if not eager, to fight. Good luck to him.
