Sunday Music: Money (That's What I Want)

It's tough to steal someone else's song, especially when they're a mega-group, and even sweeter when you do it better and make it yours. But when total nobodies The Flying Lizards grabbed the Beatle's 1963 version of Money and gave it some New Wave polish (and a great vocal) in 1979, the result eclipsed the Fab Four's original effort by a country mile, and made them one-hit wonders.

I had no idea there was a video for that. Thanks.

Its rare that the singers face fits the voice so well , burned out 1979 style resting bitch face is flawless fit.

Juxtaposed next to the Beatles version, there is no doubt who did the song better. It's all in the presentation and The Flying Lizards hit it out of the park.

I thought this was originally a Ray Charles song?

It was originally a Barrett Strong/Motown song. It's been covered by numerous artists.

My mother was the news director at a small radio station in Kansas, back in the 80s, and her little brother and a handful of his friends had a running prank going with one of the DJs there where they would request-bomb his show asking for this song...good times.
