No worries, Aesop. Our "kinder, gentler" government is concerned about people being mugged for cash or credit cards. They will fix that by implanting a buy/sell chip in your right hand. Or, if you prefer, in your forehead. With a nice tattoo, you could call it a "Mark".
Things are moving to where you won't be able to pay with cash any more. Our local Walmart still has two cashiers; all the rest is self checkout. Lowe's has one cashier at the retail end and 2 at the building supplies/lumber end. People line up at the cashier and leave the self checkout lanes mostly empty. Workers try to get people use them but they wave them off.
Just so you know, Walmart is in a tizzy because self check has lost so much money due to...wait for it.....people actually STEALING!! So, Walmart and Sam's Club may yet see a return to the days of yore when in-person cashiers rang up your groceries with speed, competence, and a smile. (📞 Calling 1956) Costco does have self check but there are 3/4 people watching, not 1, and most folks still go for the cashiers. Lowe's is losing a fortune too in their self check. It is very prevelant for the DIVERSITY to hold up an entire escaping line of groceries to argue how "the machine" is wrong. Cash is Best-instantly available, anonymously easy, and no tracking.
Not counting the news outlets or websites along the full range of accuracy and veracity, I follow multiple actual individuals' handwritten blogs. (Bot news aggregators don't thrill me.) Looking them over, many are current serving or former military and a couple are some variation of high-speed low-drag elite forces ninjas. Or just funny as all. Because life without humor is just despair. So in other words, the same folks I trusted in the military not to wet the bed, sh*t themselves, or otherwise run around like headless Nancys, are the same folks I trust on the interwebz, for demonstrating pretty much the same trustworthiness and circumspectly responsible behavior. Color me shocked.
