I don't know if the sheriff learned something or it's false bravado. I will merely point out this the same sheriff department that could not screw a nut to a bolt for the 2018 school shooting at stoneman Douglas HS. The one and same that put Hogg in the spotlight. A sane resident would keep their range time appointments.
I think you've confused Broward (Coward) County with Brevard County.
