Schizo mind-dump here. I just wanted to share the thoughts, on the assassination attempt, that I woke up with this morning. I await Aesop’s lashing over this one, but what the hell.
There seem to be a couple of camps that are forming about the narrative here. I want to offer another possibility, that I haven't yet seen presented (though it's possible I've missed it) I tell you, in advance, that what I have come up with is very Machiavellian in nature and I'm sharing it more as a thought experiment.
I'll preface my thoughts by suggesting that much more important that who is visually "in charge" of the country (the President) is that there is enough belief and support, by the public, in the significance of the role. That is to say it's more important to have the population, as much as possible, rally around some leader and less important who that is. It's been my observation that the country has been greatly fragmenting in this regard and the greatest concern is that the center must hold.
What I'll suggest next is purely hypothetical in nature and represents, what I think, would be a very strategic play.
What if the attempt was, by design, contrived, staged and meant to fail. True, there is the human tragedy of a few dead people. While that's morally reprehensible it's not out of the realm of one for whom the ends justify the means - we are talking the greater good here.
There has been great debate already about MOA, just how close the bullet whizzed by, windage, an inch from tragedy, etc. ad nauseum. What if there was never a bullet that close to Trump? True, shots were taken and spectators were hit but what if the shooter never aimed that close to man to begin with. Trump feigns being hit and a quick blood pack is deployed while he's down for a good show of things. The only other evidence I've seen is the press photo claiming to have captured the image of the bullet whizzing by. If some anon hasn't yet pulled that feature out of the photo and alpha channeled it for 'shopping into whatever, I think it's overdue.
The theatrics galvanize support behind the man while marginalizing, no ostracizing, those on the extreme left who have been such active proponents of such violence. For them they are quietly a bit sated from the experience - and left wishing for more (that fire can be restoked as needed).
For normal folks there is a little pull back to the middle - some kumbaya coalescing and common American values that get trotted out through the propaganda outlets and harmonized around a theme of non-violence and sensibility.
For the folks much farther to the right, there is a new phenomenon of Trump Fellation Syndrome. How dare they shoot at OrangeMan, he's clearly the right man for the job if the luminutties wanted to get him so bad, here take my money and my vote! All while masterbatorily talking about how much better they could handle a shot like that.
The end result is that the glue holds together at a national level and federal powers remain strong. The taxes flow and a tidy bow wraps the whole affair up for another four years of the same. The new boss, same as the old boss.
Yeah, no. Because Whackjob fired actual rounds downrange, so one could have "accidentally hit Trump and f**ked up that grand confabulation.
Bullets obey physics, and humans follow nature. Ain't nobody going to get their head blown off to advance a narrative.

You're also wishcasting backwards, and trying to explain the beginning based on the end state. You cannot reverse engineer events, and you only get one wild leap of illogic. Anything more violates the Double Mumbo-Jumbo Rule. (It's really a thing; you should look it up.)
WYSIWYG: A thoroughly incompetent (and probably - indeed, almost certainly - deliberately so) protective shield, allowing the most hare-brained attempt to assassinate Trump to succeed, just in time for the Republicants to nominate some other couldn't-win loser (just like Dole, McCrazy, or Mittens, but the latest version of that) to take a dive, and put Emperor Poopypants over the goal line, without having to cut the puppet strings. They couldn't imagine how anyone shooting from Gimme range could manage to miss Trump half a dozen times, but their wind-up toy was a total fuck-up, and couldn't hit a barn from the inside.
Trump missing death by centimeters was the miracle.
The rest was a deliberate attempt on his life, aided and abetted by The Powers That Be, yet still failing horribly and publicly.
That's how desperate and irredeemably insane they are, at this point, at what was looking like a Trump walkaway victory, and will now in all probability become a Trump landslide.
I agree w/ Anon The first... To a point. Rather then delve into the who/what/when, I agree w/ the OP's conclusion: Trump is to serve as a means of holding off the collapse, keeping things together for just a little while longer. The right won't riot if he's at the helm, but the country will still collapse around him. I think the libs' and NWO types are aware of how angry people are: They don't want a full rolling boil conflict, they want a simmering pot, and slowly upping the temperature so the frogs don't notice. As they have done, it's always death by 1000 cuts sorta thing, never a full frontal assault on an issue. They're too slimy for that. The SC Chevron decision is probably a hitch in their plans (they don't pass laws, they issue findings through executive diktat, that's why chevron was a big deal). We have no other option than to support Trump, but I do not believe he is going to save us from anything.

Not counting the news outlets or websites along the full range of accuracy and veracity, I follow multiple actual individuals' handwritten blogs. (Bot news aggregators don't thrill me.) Looking them over, many are current serving or former military and a couple are some variation of high-speed low-drag elite forces ninjas. Or just funny as all. Because life without humor is just despair. So in other words, the same folks I trusted in the military not to wet the bed, sh*t themselves, or otherwise run around like headless Nancys, are the same folks I trust on the interwebz, for demonstrating pretty much the same trustworthiness and circumspectly responsible behavior. Color me shocked.
