Kudos to THP and the CDC!

Ebola currently doubles in West Africa every three weeks.

Apparently in Dallas, it's taken 21 days.

(CNN) -- A second health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan has tested positive for Ebola, health officials said Wednesday -- casting further doubt on the hospital's ability to handle Ebola and protect employees.
The worker reported a fever Tuesday and was immediately isolated, health department spokeswoman Carrie Williams said.
The preliminary Ebola test was done late Tuesday at the state public health laboratory in Austin, and the results came back around midnight. A second test will be conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

"Health officials have interviewed the latest patient to quickly identify any contacts or potential exposures, and those people will be monitored," the health department said.
But the pool of contacts could be small, since Ebola can only be transmitted when an infected person shows symptoms. Less than a day passed between the onset of the worker's symptoms and isolation at the hospital.
Official: Duncan should have been moved
An official close to the situation says that in hindsight, Duncan should have been transferred immediately to either Emory University Hospital in Atlanta or Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Those hospitals are among only four in the country that have biocontainment units and have been preparing for years to treat a highly infectious disease like Ebola.
"If we knew then what we know now about this hospital's ability to safely care for these patients, then we would have transferred him to Emory or Nebraska," the official told CNN Senior Medical Correspondent Elizabeth Cohen.
Damn, it's a good thing "we know how to control Ebola" here, have US medical facilities, and first-world sanitation, unlike those poor boobs in Monrovia and such, right?

Meanwhile, CDC supergenius Frieden has decided that maybe sending an actual, y'know, CDC response team, to Dallas immediately might have maybe sort of possibly perhaps been helpful, unlike all that bloviating and reassuring from 1500 miles away with their heads firmly clenched somewhere upstream from their anal sphincter muscle.

More Frieden jackassery on parade.

Great work, Frieden.

Pity about the additional 100+ people now known to be exposed because you and your agency are run like the government equivalent of the Jamaican Bobsled Team, but thanks for the comedy relief. Just a thought, but I'm thinking it would have been quicker and simpler to just pull your pants down to your ankles, and slap your butt at the next press conference, to demonstrate what a crackerjack job you're doing.

And great work to you too, Scarecrow THP-Dallas.
Whoever runs your outfit obviously came highly recommended from the Wizard of Oz.
I have to figure anyone standing between the staff exits and the parking lot there about now is probably clinging to a lightpole to keep from being trampled to death.

Would the last employee leaving THP please turn out the lights?

The outbreak is now official: two cases from a single index patient.

Please don't insult the Jamaican bobsled team that way. They have an excuse.

Frieden does not.

Honestly, we ought to ask the Jamaican team to take over running things at the CDC. At least then you'd have some people who have proven themselves both highly motivated and more than halfway competent.

I may have to send an apology to the American Asstard Society, and slip a payoff to the U.S. Jackhole Association as well before this is over.

OKAY, here's my 64 dollar question: why are we hearing nothing about Duncan's family? Bueller?? They were all over his environs, sans any protection at all, right up to the very minute he began puking and crapping himself uncontrollably, perhaps even then. Notice we've heard NOTHING about their status, other than the initial report that they were "ordered to quarantine" themselves? Where are they? What is their status?
This points rather alarmingly to one of those "black holes" in the info sphere, which often times is your only indication that "someone" doesn't want something to reach the public...

Anonymous raises a valid question there.

No news at all about Duncan's family just ain't right-if the nurses have ebola-logic dictates that his family, who were in the apartment when he started puking all over the place and shitting himself has ebola as well.
Where are they?
How many people have they come into contact with?
How many new cases are going to appear in Dallas in the next few days?

Must read! This was for two patients in one of the four facilities 'equipped' to handle this - and it was clearly STILL a cluster jam...

The R-naught for ebola in a West African slum: 2

The R-naugjt for ebola in a modern Dallas hospital: >= 2

How is that even possible?

Better and better it gets. Second nurse diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas flew from Ohio to Dallas day before diagnosis.

Let’s think about the data points here:

1) Thomas Duncan suddenly decides to fly across the world, to Dallas, knowing he probably has Ebola. Who paid for his (last minute) international tickets?

2) Where is the news about Thomas Duncan’s “family” who were supposedly staying in the same apartment with him?

3) Two caregivers get Ebola in a hospital setting, but the “family” does not?

4) One of the caregivers decides, after treating a dying Ebola patient, that it is a good idea to get on a fuck*** plane and fly to Cleveland and back to Dallas.

5) Who told her to get on that plane? Who paid for the tickets?

6) I am increasingly of the belief that this entire Ebola outbreak in the U.S is being done to us, on purpose.

I know people who work at UNC hospital at Chapel Hill. Apparently
UNC has, up till today, done LITTLE or NOTHING, from what I understand, to educate their staff, to have proper protocols in place, and/or to have isolation rooms, etc., prepared for people presenting with potential Ebola symptoms. Any reports from other hospitals?

Nurse #2 who has ebola spent the weekend in Akron,Ohio, flew into Cleveland Hopkins airport on Fri,and out of same airport on Mon.
The plane has been "decontaminated twice, and has been put back into service"
As of yesterday,Cleveland Clinic-supposedly one of the best hospital systems in the world-has not given training to their nurses. (not sure about today,as the nurse I know is at work right now, maybe they had training today.)
Nothing is being done right in this epic clusterfuck.

The reason you hear little to nothing about the family is political correctness. Duncan *knew* he had Ebola, or a high chance of having it, when he left Liberia.

So did his family.

I saw a report today quoting them as saying that Duncan took care of himself. Dafuq? That's not how things work with a normally sick person. Ergo, the family knew he had it as well. And they said dick-all, hoping he'd get admitted. But when he came back after the first attempt, they got more and more concerned, until the step daughter caught a glimmer of conscience and self preservation and made the paramedics aware of the Ebola threat in her 911 call.

And the kids did not contract it? Seriously? I have my doubts that the rest of the family were even in that apartment most if not all of the time, trying to save themselves.

If anyone dies of this, all the adults in that family need to be charged with negligent homicide, and even if no one dies, I want to see criminal charges for endangerment brought. What I do not want to see, is any more whining about how Duncan wasn't treated well. We have two human beings who are infinitely morally superior to that SOB who now face death because they took care of him.

Now Frieden says that "less is more" regarding protection.

"Absolutely," Frieden replied. "More is not always better. Better is better. Sometimes you put on more layers, it's harder to put on, harder to take off, you increase your risk of exposure. That's what the science tells us."

WTF? I simply cannot understand how someone who actually gives a rat's ass about people's health can say something so obviously wrong.

It is enough to tip the scales toward "they're infecting us on purpose" - even though I don't want to go there. Usually, stupidity explains more than anything else...but this is SOOOOO f'ing stupid that it makes one wonder.

Check out responses 15, 19 and 44 on this thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3215488/posts?page=11

15 and 19 have to do with why quarantines or preventing travel in the US are OK, but not in/about West Africa. 44 is about the asshattery of believing that less is more.

From NBC News: "The West African nation where the Ebola outbreak has taken the most devastating toll needs nearly 80,000 more body bags over the next six months as it battles the deadly virus. An inventory of supplies from the Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare shows the massive gap between the resources the government has and the key supplies it desperately needs to crush the epidemic. Liberia projects a gap of 79,490 body bags and 989,985 protective suits. The ministry's report, dated Oct. 10, also says 2,425 Liberians have died of the viral hemorrhagic fever since the start of the outbreak, including 95 health care workers."
-------------------
Let’s see, “only” 77,500 or so additional body bags needed for the next 6 months, some 31 times more than they’ve needed to date. Oh, and a million biosuits...geez, how many farting unicorns are you going to need for that order?

Yup, sounds like we’ve got a real handle on this Ebola outbreak. Nothing to worry about here, everything’s going to be just fine.

YET...no one in government past the level of the local mailman can figure out that maybe, just maybe, we should ban travel from West Africa, and quarantine anyone who has been there in the last 2 months (screw this 21 days crap, I read a report that the incubation period can be as long as 42 days - and that's as of now...what will we know in 3, 6, or 12 months?).

WTF is wrong with this administration? "They're doing it on purpose" is looking more and more reasonable every freaking day!

Apparently, according to Flight-tracker, the plane used for Frontier 1143 was used for five additional flights on Tuesday before it was removed from service.

Those flights include:

A return flight to Cleveland,
Cleveland to Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL),
FLL to Cleveland, Cleveland to Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), and
ATL to Cleveland.

THAT little tidbit did NOT SHOW UP in WaPo, AP, Reuters, or any other of the Obola-backing Leftist media!

One wonders why the CDC wants the 132 passengers on this nurse's flight to check themselves - after all, she wasn't symptomatic! Could it be - begosh and begora - that THE FRIGGIN' CDC HAS BEEN LYING TO US ALL ALONG, THAT EBOLA IS PASSED BEFORE SYMPTOMS APPEAR?

Oh, and how about cab that delivered her to the airport, the bagger handler who took her bag(s), the ticket agents that touched her ID, any clerk that might have accepted payment for some snack or water, etc., etc.

I am just spitting mad - this ALL could have been prevented if only we had banned travel from West Africa - which was being done by the Brits and French before Duncan boarded his plane.

STILL FAILING!!!!!!!!!!

CDC: You Can Give—But Can’t Get—Ebola on a Bus October 15, 2014 - 3:26 PM By Brittany M. Hughes

(CNSNews.com) - Dr. Tom Frieden, director for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said during a telephone press briefing Wednesday that you cannot get Ebola by sitting next to someone on a bus, but that infected or exposed persons should not ride public transportation because they could transmit the disease to someone else.

I finally figured this out! Aliens have, for their own entertainment, put the entire planet in their equivalent of a Twilight Zone episode. OK, guys, that was pretty amazing, but the joke is over.

How lucky are we that the number of Ebola cases in America, is not doubling every 3 weeks like it is in Africa!! Oh wait, they are!

Just curious observation. Why are the Ft Deitrich facilities and Dugway facilities not being used? Why are the US military NBC units not being used?
