(QUISLINGBURG PA) Dick's Sporting Goods Inc., one of the largest retailers of its kind in the United States, is taking new steps to curtail the sale of firearms, including ending sales high capacity magazines and assault-style rifles and banning the sale of guns to people younger than 21, the company announced this morning.
As noted in the article, they've backstabbed gun owners before, then tried to weasel their way around that betrayal and make a buck off gun owners without getting tagged for it. Stockholm Syndrome and Battered Wive's Syndrome are really a thing.
Don't go back to them.
Remember, there are a lot of sporting goods retailers at which to shop, both in person, and online.
Don't be a Dick.

Dicks stopped selling "assault" style weapons in Maryland years ago, and wondered why no one went to their stores. Funny, you'd walk in on the day before Christmas and there were maybe 3 people in there.
Now that they're instituting this policy nationwide, I would expect their bankruptcy within a few years.
Can't fix stupid.

I rarely shop there, because the prices suck on just about everything they sell. I only go there if I really need something asap.
I thought they did this after Sandy Hook, haven't been there since. More virtue signalling, I guess.
After they dicked over Troy Industries I have tried to avoid them. Now I will, for sure. Sports Authority found out the hard way that there are only so many basketballs and barbells people will buy. Or as Dr. Reynolds often says: "get woke, go broke".
Goodbye you Dick's.
Bunch of hypocrites. Their stated agenda is like reading the DNC's. The a-holes should just quit selling ALL firearms, ammunition and anything associated with firearms.
I quit shopping there years ago, not that I bought much there anyway. Everything in their stores can be bought somewhere else locally for less.
I just tried their phone # for their Obergruppenamt to tell them to f**k off, but the robo voice said that due to heavy call volume my call would be answered the day after the Second Coming of Christ.
It's probably valid speculation that they are getting an earful from former customers.

I have never set foot in one of their stores and there is one twenty minutes from here.
They can suck a bag of dicks as far as I'm concerned.
Maybe when they finally go tits up someone with a little more sense will move in.
Haven't been in the local store since they did the same virtue signaling right after Sandy Hook.
What's a sporting goods store without guns? An expensive clothes store? What's the difference between them and Sports Authority, who just shut down for being an expensive clothes store with very little actual sporting goods.
DARN..... I haven't been to a Dick's store since they offed "assault rifles" after Sandy Hook. I can't quit buying there now... CW Buff out...
Never spent a dime there. I'm glad for that. I saw the letter they published. My first thought was to print it, write in big black marker "Fuck a Bunch of Dicks" and fax it to their HQ. BTW, their info and fax # is

Dick is worse than Cabela's. I only shop at small, local operations.
They pulled this crap the last time.
Like anon above said, I haven't been there in many years.
With any luck this will put send into bankruptcy
Notice this is all happening at once. Censorship, a sitting president saying that we should toss away due process to collect guns, corporations attempting gun grabs of their own (Airsoft? Really?), a bill that passed congress that would allow shutting down of places like Gab, and tie it together. This is NOT coincidence.
I would call them a bunch of virtue signaling attention whores, but that would be insulting to prostitutes.
Don't forget that Field and Stream is a subsidiary of Dick's and plan your shopping accordingly.
Below is the letter (from WaPost website)... Indeed, Dicks removed AR-style rifles after Sandy Hook but now removes them from the Field & Stream chain. Within the letter, the CEO calls for the banning of AR...
We at DICK’S Sporting Goods are deeply disturbed and saddened by the tragic events in Parkland. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims and their loved ones.
But thoughts and prayers are not enough. We have tremendous respect and admiration for the students organizing and making their voices heard regarding gun violence in schools and elsewhere in our country.

Breaking news about economic and business issues.
We have heard you. The nation has heard you. We support and respect the Second Amendment, and we recognize and appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens. But we have to help solve the problem that’s in front of us. Gun violence is an epidemic that’s taking the lives of too many people, including the brightest hope for the future of America - our kids. Following all of the rules and laws, we sold a shotgun to the Parkland shooter in November of 2017. It was not the gun, nor type of gun, he used in the shooting. But it could have been.
Clearly this indicates on so many levels that the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens.
We believe it’s time to do something about it.
Beginning today, DICK’S Sporting Goods is committed to the following:
We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles. We had already removed them from all DICK’S stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but we will now remove them from sale at all 35 Field & Stream stores.
We will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age. We will no longer sell high capacity magazines. We never have and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly.
At the same time, we implore our elected officials to enact common sense gun reform and pass the following regulations:
— Ban assault-style firearms
— Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21
— Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
— Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
— Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
— Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks
We hope others join us in this effort to let our kids know that their pleas are being taken seriously. Some will say these steps can’t guarantee tragedies like Parkland will never happen again. They may be correct - but if common sense reform is enacted and even one life is saved, it will have been worth it.
We deeply believe that this country’s most precious gift is our children. They are our future. We must keep them safe.
Sincerely,
Edward W. Stack, Chairman & CEO Dick’s Sporting Goods
Both Dicks and Field & Stream are huge where I live. Up to today, I shopped there almost weekly. No more! I will be mailing both DICKs and F&S points & membership club cards to the corporate HQ and telling them where they can put them.
I'll support my local gun store from now on.

And WalMart follows suit:
https://news.walmart.com/2018/02/28/walmart-statement-on-firearms-policy
"In light of recent events, we’ve taken an opportunity to review our policy on firearm sales. Going forward, we are raising the age restriction for purchase of firearms and ammunition to 21 years of age. We will update our processes as quickly as possible to implement this change.
In 2015, Walmart ended sales of modern sporting rifles, including the AR-15. We also do not sell handguns, except in Alaska where we feel we should continue to offer them to our customers. Additionally, we do not sell bump stocks, high-capacity magazines and similar accessories. We have a process to monitor our eCommerce marketplace and ensure our policies are applied.
We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms and go beyond Federal law by requiring customers to pass a background check before purchasing any firearm. The law would allow the sale of a firearm if no response to a background check request has been received within three business days, but our policy prohibits the sale until an approval is given.
We are also removing items from our website resembling assault-style rifles, including nonlethal airsoft guns and toys. Our heritage as a company has always been in serving sportsmen and hunters, and we will continue to do so in a responsible way."
... meanwhile we at Wal Mart will continue to purchase products from the billion-man slave labor camp and massive human-rights abuser known as China and sell them to you in the US at sick margins.
Lie down with dogs, end up with fleas.
How can they not sell to someone one the age of 21 if the law is 18? Wouldn't that be like a liquor store say we won't sell to anyone under the age of 25? I would think that is discrimination and should open them up to a law suit.
Discrimination for race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. is actionable.
Discriminating based on age is not.
They have the right to refuse service (and sales) to whomever they damned well please.
They also have the right to have a backlash boycott break that policy off in their ass.
