Aged 79, in hospital after a brief illness, with her family in attendance. Perfect singer, perfect song. Her maidean name: Perfect. She used to sing this at the end of every Fleetwood Mac performance, and Mick and John would listen off-stage, in tears. This time, as this final curtain rings down, it's millions of fans around the world.
Wonderful singer. That song 'Everywhere' for that Chevy EV electric car commercial is one of my wife's current favorites - she will stop what she is doing and listen to it. 79 is a good long life and I hope she didn't suffer when it came down to final hours. Christine McVie will be missed by many, myself included.
ReplyDeleteRIP Christine. Your beautiful voice carries on in our hearts.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful voice
ReplyDeleteI always felt Christine MvVie should and would have been a better lead female vocalist for Fleetwood Mac than the Nick...two cents and a wad of currency will get ya a cup of coffee.
ReplyDeleteThe Mac was a case of 1+1+1+1+1=27.
ReplyDeleteThey were far better combined than the sum of their parts.
Nicks wrote their biggest hits, and was more prolific.
But Christine's talent was also a force to be reckoned with, and her voice was never more beautiful than on "Songbird".
All the greats of my youth pass, and we are the lesser for it. RIP.
ReplyDeleteChristine made far more of an impact on what was a British Blues band, than Stevie and Lindsey ever did. She set the tone of something new and good. Bob Welch and Danny Kirwan came on about the same time and helped change the sound (and then left) but Christine made all the difference. Listen to "Future Games" and "Bare Trees" and get back to me.
ReplyDeleteRIP Christine, Songbird you did well and we are fortunate to have your body of work to remember you by...

@Boat Guy,
ReplyDeleteI liked Christine, hence the post, and she may have made more of an impact on what was essentially a UK house band than anyone before her time, and taken them in a better direction. But the addition of Buckingham and Nicks at the end of '74 took FM to worldwide superstardom. They charted 25 times on the Billboard 100, and the highest they ever got before 1975 was one time in 1970 at #55. They were no-hit wonders.
After that, 24 times.
The band is a testament to the synergy that can be created by the right people, and Christine
unquestionably helped get them to the top peak.
She was amazing. Great group, great ability, plus great tension.
ReplyDeleteif you heard her sing, you know what angels sound like
ReplyDeleteGotcha Brother; don't disagree on the impact of Buckingham/Nicks, that FM album knocked me out when it was released, but I had been a fan and all-around audiophile before that.
ReplyDeleteBased on our Boot Camp CINC's I've got about a decade on you and so was pretty familiar with most of the British Blues stuff. Based on that, I thought FM was a great band in all of their iterations, regardless of the charts. I can blast "I'm So Afraid" and "The Green Mamilishi" with equal enthusiasm.

One of the bands I never had the opportunity to hear in person. Kids, listen to an old man--always go to the concerts you want. Spend the money and the time. Piss off whoever needs pissing off to free up either or both. Because someday, you won't be able to go see them in concert.
ReplyDeleteFrom 1997, great shots of Christine McVie and the rest.
