Sunday Music: Night Shift
Great soundtrack to a 1982 movie by Ron Howard (trivia: Kevin Costner as Frat Boy #1!), performed by Quarterflash, fronted by smoking-hottest-redhead-rock-sax player-ever Rindy Ross, and co-penned by her husband Marv and Burt Bacharach.
Thanks for that. Never saw the movie, but since I had a radio in my car back in the early 80s, "Harden My Heart" is familiar to me. Never would have known that the saxophonist and the vocalist are the same person. Thanks again.
YW. A bigger Quarterflash fan than we are (if that's possible), Brandon Hixson, has a YouTube channel with pretty much everything Quarterflash imaginable, including this one:

The lead guitar to her left is Marv Ross. Like similar 80's legends Pat Benatar and her guitarist Neil Geraldo, Marv and Rindy Ross have been married 40+ years.
Roger Ebert's review, more or less, IIRC: "Michael Keaton is so fantastically funny in this movie, I would pay to see him in anything...except this movie."
I remember Quarterflash and Rindy Ross, and the question "where does the name come from?" The response was "three quarters talent, and one Quarterflash" Original Grandpa
Saw them Sept 1982 at Sacramento State U, got right down front against the stage for the only time in my concert-going career. Rindy gave me a smile and wink which set my teenage heart aflutter for weeks thereafter. Pulled a concert poster off of a bulletin board on the way to the car, which hangs framed in my office these 40 years later.
Two more that don't get much airplay but are absolute gems:

Don't Be Lonely (from the Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack, which is actually quite good)

Thanks for the memory. I was in serious lust with Rindy just from her voice, and then I saw her on MTV.
ReplyDeleteGood song, funny movie. (personal opinion, Keaton's best role)

ReplyDeleteOriginal Grandpa
My favorite is Find Another Fool. Great band and they still play occasionally in addition to playing in a folk band.
ReplyDelete@ Original Grandpa,
ReplyDeleteWhich they stole from an Aussie proverb.
Yes, she was incredibly hot. Several of their songs are still on my favorites of all time list.
