Why I Call Him Gabbin' Nuisance...

PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Bay Area nurses are expressing concern over an ICU training plan announced By Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday.

"We're looking at training RNs, this two-day, very effective, focused to training to speed up opportunities to bring nurses into the ICUs to help out patients that's being rolled out as well," Newsom said at Monday's press conference, detailing the state's strategy to prepare for surging COVID-19 numbers.
Subtitled:
"How To Convince 50,000 Doctors and 200,000 Nurses That You're So Dumb You Don't Know How Blisteringly Dumb You Are".

Apparently next week, CA Gov. Gabbin' Nuisance will also roll out his 5-minute EMT course, his 1 hour paramedic class, and his 5-day brain surgeon program. But this explains how he became governor by collecting enough soda cans and boxtops.

I'm also pretty sure that for going on 30 years, if you have an IQ over 80, you're not allowed to go into politics in this state.

FTR, as stated in the news report, (which amazingly contains actual news) it does, indeed, take a minimum of 6-12 months to train a nurse to function minimally in the ICU, and 2-3 years of practice there to be fully competent at that job.

Suggesting, even if one were high on crack and drunk as hell, that any nurse could be turned loose in any ICU after 2 days, even if they meant a full 48 hours of training, is so asinine as to be beyond even my encyclopedic command of profanity to adequately describe. (But in my defense, if I ever come face-to-face with this asshole, I'll give it a herculean effort.)

Gabbin' Nuisance, Alzheimer Nancy's obviously retarded nephew, demonstrates yet again that no amount of shit will adequately substitute for brains, and this is just the latest proof of concept.

  1. You never have comments, so here is one. I dont always agree with wtf you say, but I do respect the right for you to say it. And I expect the right for me to say wtf ever I want to say. I check your blog daily to see the rants. But know, in absence of discussion amongst viewers, you are not alone. Continue writing and provoking, before you are no longer able to. You are not and will not ever be alone.

  2. Anyone-Try and post the picture on your FB page. Mine keeps saying: "Something went wrong. We're working on getting it fixed as soon as we can." Horseshit. That garbage site is programmed to reject any mockery of TPTB.

  4. @Ryan,

To date, I have 25,600+ comments, so I don't know what makes you think I have none.
But read the comments policy on the front page. Despite my tolerance and good nature, comments which run afoul of that policy have the right to be whisked away to the ether, purely at my whim.

Just exactly as Blogger can zap this blog into oblivion, purely at their whim.

  5. A 48 hour ICU Nurse? Uh....no thank you. Mamacita spent a long time getting into the ICU. It's a special place, where the miracles of God are on display nightly, and patients and doctors are ever grateful that the Nurses know what the fuXk they are doing! From crack babies that are catatonic, to 90 yro heart patients, to the parents of 10 year olds who now realize that Jimmy IS doing drugs, to the guy who just threw up on the entire staff and says that he feels better so he will just go home-and the hospital won't charge him much, right? ICU nurses spend a lot of time studying, working, studying, and achieving so that they are first in line to be stabbed, threatened, and harrassed by ill patients and their families. Or, as my mother fondly put it, the Institutionally Crazy Unit. Keep on keeping on Aesop. There are folks who are immensely happy you are there when they need you. Politicians be damned.

  6. The problem with a lot of these muthas is that they don't see what's behind what they see. When a middle aged person with new onset wheezing absent prior reactive airway disease history receiving continuous nebs enroute by EMS without improvement is noted to have crackles and JVD, improves with NTG & Lasix,a 48-hr ICU "noice" (as the elderly Italians used to say in the Bronx) ain't gonna cut the mustard.

Every ED nurse's and physician's repertoire is replete with "fascinomas" and "horrendomas". The patient brought in by EMS because she had fallen at home and developed back pain: triaged on that basis to a low level and waited for an hour and a half in the room. Husband stated she complained of back pain, passed out, fell down. Had a leaking AAA, gave her non-crossmatched blood, went to the OR, successful surgery but died in ICU.

Nurses are the eyes, ears, hands and even brains of the doctors, (even more so in the ED than the ICU). Without the training and experience the eye will not see that which is in plain sight, the ear will not hear that which is clearly audible, the fingers will not feel that which is clearly palpable. But then hospitals do have morgues.

The whole COVID-19 cluster#|_|(I< was a Chinese Fire Drill from the get-go as politicians tried to bend science instead of sticking to policy.

  7. Been a cardiac nurse for 5 years now. 2 days to train up to ICU? No. I float to step-down pretty often, and take their easiest patients. In ICU somebody'd have to be looking over my shoulder every 5 minutes. I could be trained to do ICU, but it'd take a bit longer than 2 days.
