Two virtuosos doing a duet from John Denver's 1975 Windsong album on his 1976 Christmas Special. The single, which featured Olivia Newton-John's backing vocals, debuted at #58, and peaked at #13 on the Hot 100, and #12 on the Country chart at the same time, both within seven weeks; the album charted #1 on both charts, and went platinum, so including it on a Christmas special the following December was a no-brainer. And as seen here, pure magic.
I saw John Denver perform in the Moby gym in Fort Collins some 40 years ago. Absolutely fantastic performer. The world lost a truly talented musician when
ReplyDeletehis plane crashed in Monterey Bay 27 years ago.
She was a beauty.
ReplyDeleteI remember that Christmas Special, would not have missed it as a youngin'. And yes, Denver and ONJ were the perfect pairing. Thanks for the timely reminder of two incredible performers.
ReplyDelete(BTW, despite constant argument to the contrary, not that I can exactly know, the words to Rocky Mountain High ARE NOT about smoking pot around the campfire. Listen to them...anyone who moved from another area to Colorado - back before "half" of California moved here and ruined the Front Range - knew precisely what Denver was speaking of in his song, He also bought Starwood in Aspen before it became popular and insanely expensive...Annie's Cafe' is gone, swallowed up by locust-level "progress".)
My fond memories of Denver are that he was a vocal opponent of the 2nd Amendment.
ReplyDeleteAnd how did that work out for him?
ReplyDeleteThank you for this reminder, AESOP. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
