I think I'd argue that the peak of Western Civilization was April 17, 1970, when Apollo 13 returned safely. It showed what those folks did when all the shit went wrong.
That was high drama, and showed what kind of a people we were.
But it was not any sort of peak of Western civilization, anymore than was the Alamo. Failing valiantly is still failing, at the end of the day. Sorry, but no.
