Mild is relative to other bugs. It's not bubonic plague, or ebola, or smallpox. It's not even Spanish flu. Just worse than ordinary flu, by about 20-30x.
Your personal travails notwithstanding, that's pretty mild for a frankenvirus that escaped from a bio-warfare lab.
