The 80s were the 80s, because you could have a group name as stupid as Echo and the Bunnymen, and still crank out a pounding beat like this drum-heavy song, have it go nowhere, and still watch it claw its way to cult hit status over the next decade. This song was what the 11 on the amp was made for.

I still find that the soundtracks from Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club - to me, perhaps, emblematic of the music of those years - still hold up pretty well. The Ravishing Mrs. TB has any number of albums from that time, so I still hear them regularly.
ReplyDeleteWell now, that was a trip down memory lane...immediately saw in my minds eye me driving across the Oakland Bay Bridge from NAS Alameda to go clubbing in SF always on the lookout for any opportunity to offer some words of slight to the gay boys.
