Sunday Music: It's Too Late

The first single, and arguably best cut (of seven out of twelve that charted hugely), off of her ground-breaking second album, Tapestry, long-time songwriter Carole King took center stage as performer. With back-ups by friends like James Taylor and Joni Mitchell, the album racked up four Grammys, this song was Record of the Year, and this disc is one of the top-selling albums of all time, with over 25M sold, staying on the charts for nearly six years straight. This track is a huge part of why.

  1. According to the internet myth of the song that was #1 on the charts on your 14th birthday defines your life this song is the one that defines mine.

  2. Another AM memory. She had a signing at a book store I worked at in the 90's. We had a piano in the store and she interspersed her discussion of her book with some playing. I wasn't working the signing but you could here her throughout the store. One of my more pleasant shifts.

Naganni: The Locomotion? Nope! Internet Myth Busted.

  3. "Don't worry, we'll hit him with the de-fib paddles in a few weeks or months, and he'll just get up and walk right out of here like his heart never stopped. I saw it in a Frankenstein movie."

  5. Guayquil Ecuador Coronavirus Update:

Video title, translated: Guayaquil, one of the areas of Ecuador most affected by coronavirus, cannot cope with the corpses

[Guayaquil, una de las zonas de Ecuador más afectadas por coronavirus, no da abasto con los cadáveres]

Univision News, April 5, 2 minute YT video.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIE7A8PTAzs

“They are recovering 150 bodies per day, compared to the normal 30 from other causes” (before the epidemic).

(Guayaquil’s population is 3 million, more than half in crowded slums)

Guayaquil is Covid-19 “in the wild,” with little or no modern medical care available. Hospitals are overrun.

End stage Covid-19 is BRUTAL without palliative meds: morphine++ etc

You slowly suffocate and drown in your own pink frothy lung fluids. Most Ecuadorians dying of CV die at home. Hospitals have collapsed, there are virtually no ventilators or ICU beds or staff in the 1st world meaning.

Those pushing for “herd immunity” via “let it run” should watch the news reports from Guayaquil.

Just google or Youtube search “Guayaquil, Ecuador” for a Coronavirus reality check. And they are just starting, they are about where Northern Italy was a month ago. It’s getting worse and worse by the day.

  7. I played "Aint wasting time no more" by the Allman brothers in my headphones while finishing up the last veggie garden preps for planting next Friday.

Last Sunday morning, the sunshine felt like rain
The week before, they all seemed the same
With the help of God and true friends, I've come to realize
I still have two strong legs, and even wings to fly

So I, ain't a wastin' time no more
'Cause time goes by like hurricanes, and faster things

Well, Lord, Lord, Miss Sally, why are your cryin?
Been around here three long days, lookin' like we're dyin'
Go step yourself outside and look up at the stars above
And go on downtown, baby, find somebody to love

Meanwhile, I ain't a wastin' time no more
'Cause time goes by like pourin' rain, and much faster things

You don't need no gypsy to tell you why
Ya can't let one precious day to slip by
Well, look inside yourself, and if you don't see what you want
May be sometimes then ya don't
But leave your mind alone and just get high

Well, by and by, way after many years have gone
And all the war freaks die off, leavin' us alone
We'll raise our children, in the peaceful way we can
It's up to you and me brother to try and try again

So, hear us now, we ain't wastin' time no more
'Cause time rolls by like hurricanes
    Runnin' after the subway train
    Don't forget the pourin' rain

  11. @Aesop. Enjoyed that one. Album was $2.50 in the PX back then, still have it. Played once to check, played once to put on reel-to-reel. Not a thing to blast while GI'ing the room on the weekend but good to relax with. Compositional rating, recording quality, side musicians all get 10's. Tight, like when the LA Express was backing up Joni Mitchell. Tasty stuff musically.
