Sunday Music: Time Stand Still

There are at least a dozen tracks I could pick from Rush; I chose this one today. Stone-cold perfection from the greatest power trio that ever took the stage, giving you a wall of sound at the absolute peak mastery of their art, expressing the timeless wish of mortal men to make the hourglass of life stop running, something we all feel tugging a bit more urgently as we get older, and even more urgently as another year draws to a close. When I hear this one, I only want it to play about ten or twenty times.

  1. A new one for me; thanks, Brother! Great sound.
Given the release date, I was busy with two young'uns ( 2-ish and 4-ish) and a demanding more than full time job.

  2. Aimee Mann as the 'time stands still' back ground.
Under the punk look, she had a hell of a set of pipes.

  3. Yup, Aimee herself. From one-hit wonders 'Til Tuesday ("Voices Carry").

  5. Awesome selection! Rush is one of the best ever and that was a great song.

With the age we live in, I think Red Sector A, Distant Early Warning, and Red Tide all seem very appropriate, too.

  7. Dude! Where's my morning Raconteur? I'll let you slide for Monday but c'mon! You've created this penned opiate and I need my fix.

  8. It's a slow news week, and bills have to be paid. I put out better than a post/day on average, so you're just going to have to wait until there's content worth posting. Some days I can find five topics, other days I struggle for one.

  9. Always enjoyed them live. Still got all the t-shirts, even if they don't fit any longer.

  10. As a high-school'er of the 80's (class of 91) i've heard practically ALL of the classic rock *on the radio* and SO MANY OF THEM i had no clue what was the name of the song, or the artist performing it??? (until later) and for me it is pretty weird...i listen to the music (its playing in the background RIGHT NOW) and time (for me) suddenly seems meaningless...i am 17, 18, 20, 25... 46 right now... and it feels like all at the same time...???

  11. Peart is the lone wolf on tour, and his lyrics are second to none.

"Ghost of a Chance" is my fav
