It generally takes a monumental f**k-up (molesting children on video, for example) to fire a serving police office once they're out of their rookie year (during which anything will suffice).
Nonetheless today, DPD fired killer copchick and four-year veteran Amber Guyger, not for killing her neighbor in a dispute and blaming fatigue, but for something else that day, which they refuse to name, claiming it would taint the investigation to reveal.
(DALLAS) An internal investigation revealed Guyger “engaged in adverse conduct when she was arrested for manslaughter’’ three days after the Sept. 6 shooting of Jean, who lived in the fourth-floor apartment right above her, the statement said. The posting did not specify the nature of the "adverse conduct,'' but Dallas police spokesman Sgt. Warren Mitchell later described it in a written response as “conduct which adversely affects the morale or efficiency of the Department or which has a tendency to adversely affect, lower, destroy public respect and confidence in the Department or officer.”When an officer has been arrested for a crime, adverse conduct is often cited in the officer’s termination, Mitchell said.Guyger, who was hired in November 2013, has been out on bond and remained on administrative leave while facing manslaughter charges. Her continued employment has been a sore point for Jean’s relatives and protesters, who have argued she should be fired and charged with murder.
IOW, they're still just fine with her whacking her neighbor in a fit of pique, but she after four years service, she did something so egregious they want her to be an ex-cop, but it's so secret that if they told us, they'd have to kill us.
Which, given Guyger's penchant and M.O. for settling personal problems, ought to give any citizen of Dallas some pause.
It almost sounds like they're blaming her, not for the murder, but for getting caught.
And now they get no credit for finally doing the right thing, because they didn't do it for the right reasons, and they've cleverly refused to state the reason, thus ensuring that in the post-trial riots, they'll still be hated by the entire rioting community, unless Guyger gets a well-deserved date with a needle.
Well-played, DPD. Best case, this only costs you tens of million$ of dollar$ at the inevitable civil trial.

"Adverse conduct" might well be that she lied about everything and when the Texas Rangers took over the investigation DPD couldn't manipulate the evidence to clear her.

ReplyDelete"Jean wasn’t the first person shot by Guyger. She shot a man named Uvaldo Perez on May 12, 2017, while on duty.

According to an affidavit filed against Perez, police were looking for a suspect when Guyger and another officer were called to assist a third officer. Perez got out of a car and became combative with Guyger and another officer. A struggle began and Guyger fired her Taser at Perez, who then wrested it away from her. She then drew her gun and fired, wounding Perez in the abdomen."
Sounds like they fired her for lying and misrepresentation to the Dallas Internal Affairs. Will be interesting to see, now that she's fired, what the Grand Jury will indict her for.
