And another acre of the swamp is drained, filled in, and re-seeded to productive use:
Eighteen months into this administration SecDef and SecArmy are sending all the happy horsesh...err, fertilizer shoved down troops' throats (you should forgive the pun) regarding gender-confused Nancy boys, and other assorted screw-ups who don't belong in the military.
(MORDOR ON THE POTOMAC) Fighting will now take precedence over dealing with transitioning transgender troops, drug abuse and other issues as the Army seeks to overhaul its training regimen to hone its soldiers’ battlefield skills.
In a series of servicewide memorandums approved by Army Secretary Mark Esper and Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and obtained by The Washington Times, service leaders are making optional previously mandatory training on issues such as transgender transition and drug abuse. The move, Army leaders argue, is designed to relieve stress on the overburdened troop training regimen and refocus on soldiers’ ability to fight in combat.
“The Army’s regulations and policies that deal with training were pretty settled, and there were not a lot of detractors to it. … It was all the other [training] requirements that we levied on ourselves, or we had levied from other places” that led to the increasingly cumbersome approach to combat readiness, said Col. John O’Grady, chief of the Army’s collective training division.
Those mandated training requirements “served as barriers to maximizing time … to build readiness and lethality” within combat units, he said in an interview. Aside from ending mandatory training programs on transgender troops and drug abuse, courses on media awareness and human trafficking have been eliminated from the mandatory curriculum, the service memorandums state.
Army officials are codifying the new marching orders into servicewide training guidelines and doctrine, which will bring the Army more in line with the Pentagon’s new National Defense Strategy, Col. O’Grady said.
Along with scaling back noncombat training mandates, service leaders are also extending the time soldiers spend in infantry training. Soldiers graduating from the nine-week basic training course will now spend an additional two months in “advanced individual training” before heading to their first duty stations.
New soldiers currently spend about six weeks in advanced individual training before deploying. Courses based at Fort Benning, Georgia — dubbed “Home of the Infantry” — will be the first to implement extended training, Military.com reported.
What a concept. Command training time can now focus on combat skills, like killing the enemy and destroying his stuff, rather than coordinating makeup and wardrobe for the psychologically damaged Special Snowflakes.
Next should be the order to prosecute for negligence any recruiter who sends a transgender poolee to basic training in the first place, followed by the decision to separate the gender-dysphoric who opt for that nonsense subsequently under a general discharge for the good of the service. Cpl. Klinger is a fictional character, and needs to stay there.
Hopefully this program of focusing on mission rather than SJW b.s. catches on at the other services. (I'm looking at you, SecNav.)
I wish someone would live-televise Obozo's reaction every time another steaming chunk of his mischief in office is set aflame by this administration, and his dubious "legacy" continues to circle the bowl.
So apparently SecDef isn't quite the tool folks seem to think.
ReplyDeleteI fully DO expect SecNav to follow suit.
As you note, a bit at a time and perhaps not as fast as we might like but the legacies are being flushed.

Amazing, troops being trained to fight instead of walking around in red heels. That means we might win the next war, but won't look fabulous while losing which is what mattered more.

Awesome. I suppose ditching the black beret & going to just a functional patrol cap is too much to ask... but this is a good step. Keep in mind that a Yuuuge! chunk of the support tail - much of it DA civilians - has their work degraded by the same mandatory SJW training regimen as well. Hopefully that does a burn-in too; save a 'chute, kill a Good Idea Faerie.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the Army and I haven't put on the beret in a couple years, except for a family photo where my wife wanted me in dress uniform.
DeleteWhile I'd certainly applaud ditching the "everybodygetstobespecialandfabulous" headgear, seems like the priorities are correct here. Get the major corrections made first and with any luck all the SJW bullshit will get dealt with in time.

I'm an old Army vet.
ReplyDeleteIt is about time they focused training for the job at hand, not the minority PC bullshit that they have succumbed to.
God Bless Mad Dog Mattis!
ReplyDeleteGreat news, absolutely great! The military's job is to break things and kill people, with great effectiveness - everything else is, at best, window-dressing. At worst (like these uber-PC policies) they actually degrade effectiveness and get people killed, even in peacetime. FYI, the ship that ran into the huge cargo ship in the Pacific had female officers of dubious quality in responsible positions...almost certainly because no one in charge of passing or promoting them wanted to deal with the problems associated with firing or not promoting them. The time for that crap never existed, and fixing it is long overdue. THANK YOU, General Mattis!
ReplyDeleteNow let's get some more effective weapons, starting with the basic infantry rifle: Switch them all (and the SAWs, too) to 6.5 Grendel. It is a FAR more effective round at all ranges, and will require only a barrel change (it uses the same bolt and mags as the 5.56 mm). Given that we have a $700 Billion+ defense budget, I'm thinking that we can re-equip the entire armed forces and NG for far less than a single day's worth of that budget...and our forces will be that much more effective on the battlefield.
The costs can even be offset by selling all of the 5.56 ammo to the public, along with any barrels that have not so much wear and tear.

ReplyDeleteYou must have missed this here a few days ago, which has since gone rather viral on the conservative blogrolls, including mine:

As for new rounds, oddballs (and that's what it is until proven otherwise by actual adoption) like the Grendel are about as likely as skating rinks in Hell, due to realities of materiel stocks on hand, and the decades-long process to get a new round or rounds approved. You'd have to replace every rifle in the inventory down to the Notional Guard level, because they deploy to front lines as well, and have for nearly 30 years, as well as all the spare parts, and the actual stocks of ammunition itself, which has been considerably drawn down by two decade-long wars in the sandbox.
You're talking about wholesale replacement - not just a tweak here and there - of not just the main service round, but also not one but TWO major ground weapons systems. While the dot Mil, Army and Marine, is looking at worn out tanks, Amtracs, AFVs, specialty sub-types, subpar light vehicles, and aging helicopter fleets, just for starters, not to mention being so woefully under-manned overall that it hearkens to 1939.
Quite simply, no chance in hell, whatsoever, for that to happen. Budgets = reality, and we're broker than a sobering sailor after shore leave, as a country, and as a DoD, with some staggering rehabilitation far higher on the list of Things To Do than puttering with the arguably least-important weapon in the arsenals of any major military.
Ordinary guys like you and me kill, or would kill, people with rifles, and we can afford to dote on them, and the idiosyncracies and arcana of different ones; militaries kill people with artillery batteries, tank brigades, and metric f**ktons of shells, rockets, and bombs, and we don't have enough of any of those to see us past 90 days of sustained combat.
The .223 has been killing commies for mommy for 53 years, and it will continue to do so until we have no other choice, or someone comes up with a phased-plasma rifle in the 40W range, in all likelihood.
I've told people before that I've seen the effectiveness of the 5.56 in combat (AFG) up close, and it was nasty. I've also taken care of trauma patients who've been shot by the 5.56 and I've worked with the surgeons who fix them up. The 5.56 leaves horrifying wound channels and devastating temporary cavitation injuries. "Way harder to fix a GSW from a 5.56 than any pistol round or AK round" is what our chief trauma surgeon said to me a couple years ago.
DeleteIt's not the end all, be all of fighting ammo, but my professional experience with it in AFG and my professional experience with patients who've been shot with it... Ill stick with it for a while myself.
The grendel does not use the same bolt as 5.56, and magazines would require at least a different follower
