SecDef Mattis repeated a line from his Hold The Line impromptu speech a couple of weeks back, in remarks at the 9/11 memorial service yesterday:

I'm trying to remember the last SecDef in American history for whom the military would cheerfully go to hell and back, and return with the devil's severed head...
yeah, drawing a blank there.

I seem to recall a similar phrase associated with Mattis:

"I'm pleading with you with tears in my eyes: if you f*** with me, I'll kill you all."
