No doctor or nurse or any other tech has ever mentioned it in any fashion. Makes me wonder if that is an industry standard. Mustn't burden the public with useless data...Willhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722792638246578812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-714028479313834812.post-53841527256774006502018-08-21T20:16:11.634-07:002018-08-21T20:16:11.634-07:00I've always thought it very odd that a person ...I've always thought it very odd that a person wouldn't know their own blood type. I now take blood thinners due to an artificial heart valve, and coumadin is a prohibited material for donors.

One of my coworker's wives could have died without blood donations. During childbirth, she bled a lot and without the units, would have likely bled out and died. Donating saves lives - maybe YOUR life, your wife-husband or child. Inconvenient yes - but compared to a funeral, not so much.

Give when you can - you are doing the world a favor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-714028479313834812.post-59657177932954700812018-08-20T14:39:00.042-07:002018-08-20T14:39:00.042-07:00Not to mention, the treatment for the sudden loss ...Not to mention, the treatment for the sudden loss of 1 unit of whole blood consists of a glass of orange juice, and a cookie.Aesophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07834464741531503378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-714028479313834812.post-88522399948600914622018-08-20T08:50:48.793-07:002018-08-20T08:50:48.793-07:00Mr. Aesop: (golf clap). All that in addition to....in addition to....(let me see...hmmm, not THIS pocket...maybe THAT pocket...) er....ummm. Oh, yeah: getting hit by a bus as you turn from the donation center parking lot as you head home. Pretty much the tally of DONOR risks.

For all of Red Cross' shortcomings (as with any enterprise full of fallible humans), it strikes me as reasonable to fault them for REAL problems, not jenny mccarthy-esque malarky. Maybe they've cleaned up their act, including ensuring a donor not be at risk of communicable diseases but I'm not a betting man. Rather, I suggest your local blood bank.

Rick

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
