I've got the week off, so among the eleventy things I have to do this week, getting this pig back up on skates is rising to the middle of my list.

Running the new OS (Windoze?) installed as a virtual drive inside a Linux distro with the Windows data files physically segregated outside the combined system with backups elsewhere: the virtual OS if corrupted or disrupted can be restored with a few keystrokes, and likewise the data.

Half the reason this (and probably every) tablet blows: It won't log onto half of the sites on my own bloglist. This is why cellphones are for phone calls, and tablets should be yellow legal size paper.

I haven't turned on my Windows tower in ages, but of course do not run or maintain a blog. I use an iPad Mini 4 in an Otterbox case with two small clamps on each side of the Lightning power port to protect the plug and cable near the port from angular stresses. I keep it plugged in all the time to minimize charge-discharge cycles on the battery. Only things I know it won't do without paid services are torrents and faxes.
ReplyDeleteA generic Otterbox case can be had from EBay (probably made in the same Chinese factory as the brand-name one) for one-fifth of the price. The iPad opens all websites, blog pages, etc. and incoming and outgoing telophone calls are taken on the ipad from a nearby synched iPhone 6S. An inexpensive external bluetooth speaker improves sound, and an external keyboard is also an option: I got one but use the virtual on-screen one.
Regarding the Woodpile Report.
ReplyDeleteI believe it is out of character for Remus to walk away without comment or a note on his blog. His wife recently died, and I have a feeling of dread for his well being.
Ubuntu is the worst. I had flashbacks to Windows 8. I hated Windows 8.

I have now seen three times now two comments on the interwebs and heard one from friend of a friend about people getting covid notification positive after skipping out on waiting in line. I am calling bullshit and this needs to stop as it adds to the misinformation. Also saw where the coin shortage will be solved in October as everyone is to take their change jars to the financial institutions and cash them in.

Remus passed away on July 8th. He was diagnosed with cancer 3 weeks prior.
